Good luck. I'm not entirely sure that car mount will hold up to the rigors of vibration, hot sun, and other motorcycle behaviors.
When I'm bombing through the mountains with all the luggage on, going 600 or more miles that day, I don't need the GPS to come loose on me.
I have pretty much the same in my car, that mount is fine for that purpose.

It's about the best place to mount your GPS because it will always be right infront of you instead of on the handlebars where it gets swiveled around
I disagree, based on thousands of road miles with my Zumo 550. Mounted on the left clutch lever perch, angled so I can glance at it easy, it is second nature. If it was sitting in the steering stem mount, my tank bag would interfere with my view of it. Besides, I don't have to look at it until it chimes in my helmet speakers and announces a pending turn or something. The Zumo 550 blows my car's GPS away, sometimes the car gps tells me to turn after I am right on top of the intersection. The Zumo gives me plenty of warning.
Of course, mine is permanently mounted. At least the mounts are, and the wiring. I take the Zumo off when I park it in public, even though I always put a Nelson-Rigg sunshield cover on the bike. I leave the Garmin smart XM antenna mounted on the right brake lever perch, if they want it bad enough to cut the cable fine, insurance will buy a new one, and the new ones are better than what I have anyway.
I'm using my steering stem mount to hold the small aluminum rectangular box my machinist friend is making which will hold 2 BMW sockets, and two controllers (one for each socket), plus the controller for the heated handgrips. I just purchased a steering stem ram mount to which the box will be bolted.
Soon as its all done, about 3 weeks (perfect, it will be warm enough to ride by then) I'll take some pictures and post them.
