No Flies Back to Stock???
01/28/15 8:13 AM

I've been thinking of getting a 2012 or newer ZX14. My plan would be to transfer the majority of the parts that fit from my 2008 to the new bike including the brocks CT meg exhaust. I would like to reinstall the stock exhaust or maybe a set of slip ons with the stock header back on the 2008 prior to selling it. I have removed the flies and do not want to reinstall them. Is it going to be a problem having the flies removed with the stock header pipe? Will I get an error code? Do I need a new map for the PC III or do I just run the bike on the stock ECU again without the PC III? I am unsure how having the flies removed will effect the bike in stock form.

I've been thinking of getting a 2012 or newer ZX14.

Newer. Chase the refinements.

... transfer the majority of the parts that fit from my 2008

Yes, do it. Trade-in gives you nothing for it. New owner may not like your selections and toss them. Most everything fits between years.

... including the brocks CT meg exhaust.

That I don't know?

I would like to reinstall the stock exhaust or maybe a set of slip ons with the stock header back on the 2008 prior to selling it.

Give the new owner the option of both pipes. Why? The first gen pipe and second gen do not fit without a lot of fuss and not worth it basically.

I have removed the flies and do not want to reinstall them.

Again, hand the parts over to the next owner. Can't hurt bulletproof but lose a little hp up top.

Is it going to be a problem having the flies removed with the stock header pipe?

I run stock pipes and open flies. No sign of bullet having an issue and that is times 3 14's and still no issues.

Will I get an error code?

Wait a minute. You have flies out and no error code at this time, yes?

Do I need a new map for the PC III or do I just run the bike on the stock ECU again without the PC III?

The pc is a transfer to the new bike. The bike does not need any pig with stock pipes and no flies. Flies act as a governor. Carbs have no fly and it is the same basic normally aspirated engine only self correcting by that vacuum change.

I am unsure how having the flies removed will effect the bike in stock form.

The pull of vacuum under that main throttle pulls on a sensor that moves by the pulse demand. If electricity flows at the speed of light, the calc is made waiting for the crank to come around at set degree. It's that forgiving is fuel injection. It's a supply-demand balancing act. You supply the vacuum, the ECU supplies the [fuel] demand of the vacuum pull. More like, Pullitproof.

Do I need a new map for the PC III or do I just run the bike on the stock ECU again without the PC III?

I ran my 08 without flies, without a PC and with stock exhaust and I had no problems at all.

I am unsure how having the flies removed will effect the bike in stock form.

It still won't make much of a change on an 08-11. Probably unnoticeable from having flies in. Add a PC with a generic map and not much different. If the fueling is still close to stock, the faster air with flies out doesn't change the choppy response at about 2.7k rpm. You need to tune the low end fueling for flies out on an 08 before you will feel the smoothness. Without a tune (or perhaps a map that was expertly tuned for flies out) you won't be able to tell whether the flies are there or not.

Cool. Thanks for the replies I do really appreciate it. If I do go with a new bike I plan to do an ECU flash so I would just sell the PC III. According to Brocks site the CT meg fits model years 2006-2015. Whenever I sell a bike I always give the new owner all the OEM parts.

Hub, What "refinements" occurred from 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015 models?

Dan, Say for gen2 what came as standard for euro bikes it is standard for the western side now. ABS is standard. More mode selection from the gen1 say. Slipper clutch pack. Little refinements they let the engineer's exercise and clean up this short production run. Grn may have more insight. He's gone thru a few models, but I'd chase the upgrades, not buy backwards, unless the deal is too sweet to walk away from a leftover say. You'll miss nothing [performance wise] between those exercises.
