Cold Tires
11/09/16 12:13 PM

You guys be safe out there, don't let cold tires get you like they did me on this 25mph turn... I've been riding for about 6 years, and even know this was a noob mistake, I really don't feel like I was riding aggressive at all, actually I was going a lot less aggressive than normal. I'm not sure if there was any sand/oil on the road, or if it was just cold tires, but once that rear slid out, there was nothing else I could do. Good news is that insurance is covering it, and an oem replacement muffler is more expensive than brocks:)

Firstly, are you okay? Yeah cold tires definitely make it even worse on the lean but add in oil and/or street grime spells disaster. How did happen? into a turn at a lean?

Not surprised the bike sustained that amount of damage b/c of the sheer weight on them. Glad the insurance co. are going to pick up the tab? How much is damages?

Yeah but that looks like it slid a long way for 25 mph. I guess 20 feet would do it if it was all on pavement. Probably better to just slide rather than flip and tumble. Hope you're not injured to bad.

Some scrapes and bruises, nothing substantial. The shop said about $6500, of course that is everything brand new oem, and shop rates to do the work. The turn was actually a round-about kind of turn so it slid like 15-20 feet and hit a curb... so that probably didn't help. Since the handlebars are broken, or part of it is. I'm looking into LSL riser handlebars. Also anyone have any experience with the "guaranteed to fit" Chinese fairings on eBay? I just haven't been able to find a lot of aftermarket stuff for the 14.

Sorry to hear about the bike! I had the same (more or less) thing happen on my ZX9, cold tires and a cold road. On that bike I tried the Chinese fairing kits from fleabay and really regretted buying them. The fitment was awful (had to reuse some OEM pieces that weren't damaged) and the finish started coming off within a year. However, I've heard of people on this forum who had better experiences.

If you're taking a payout from insurance and trying to fix it yourself, check out www.bikebandit.com and price out how much the individual parts will cost you, the upper fairing is REALLY expensive though but its worth seeing how much it would cost for the OEM replacement.

Cory used to sell fairing kits off of new bikes that were parted out, not sure if he's still doing it. But had really good pricing for an entire OEM fairing kit, http://www.402bike.com/

I wouldn't use the Chinese fairings if you are going to go fast. I know of one guy who had them blow off the bike.

I agree with Rook. A friend had a set of Chines bodywork on his ZX6 and it blew open and blocked his brake lever at turn 1 at Thunderhill Raceway. He went off at high speed. Luckily neither he nor the bike were heavily damaged. He replaced the bodywork with another set from China but a different company. Much better quality. No problems since.

Second that as well with those cheap Chinese plastics; not worth the headache.

Oem it is. Thanks for everyone's feedback. Since an oem replacement muffler is about $1100, I'm going to go with Brock's. I really like the CT and alien head duals. I know both are a lot different, I've heard sound clips of the CT and they sound amazing, nice and deep. What does everyone have? Any preference/ regrets w getting one when you should have gotten another?

Step 1), just get a full system with a single muffler, step 2)check dyno charts and weight difference, step 3) go to zx-1441r.com and ask what people are using for racing. Single full system will cost about the same as dual slipons, weigh less and probably give you a little better performance.

They do make dual full systems, but they're pricey, I went with a single full system for the main selling feature of making it easier to clean and lube my chain! :)

You should also get a power commander as well, IMO, even if you decide on just slip ons.
