Brocks CT Single Full System
05/10/11 8:08 PM

So I finally got my Brocks Exhaust and PC V. Im going to try to do the install myself so I plan on using this thread to ask you guys questions as I go and also post some pix. Maybe the poor guy that comes along behind me may find some of my inept ramblings and stumbling through this install, helpful.

My first couple of questions:

1) Is there anything that I need to put between the connections of the pipes? I saw a pdf on the install on another bike and they used some kind of reddish orange compound. The pdf for the ZX-14 doesnt mention anything.

2) Do I need to buy new gaskets for the headers? The bike is brand new and has just about 1k miles on it.

Thanks in advance guys!!!

i wouldnt tell you not to change your gaskets , but i had that same question to Brock himself and his reply was they never change them and have never had 1 leak. mine had 4000 mi on it when i installed my exhaust and ive had no problems with it. If you do change them use extreme care when digging them out not to scare the inside of the exhaust ports with the screwdriver. Hear they can be a pain to get out. Good luck Make sure to post some pics

The instructions tell you to put sealant inside the collars at the header. I put it inside the exhaust cutouts, on the outside of the collars, and on the inside. Overkill. Oh well, it won't ever leak.

I didn't put any on the joints because they slip fitted tight enough it won't be a problem ever.

Heck, since mine were ceramic coated inside and out, I actually had to sandpaper a few sections to get them to slip together. The bike will fall apart before they will ever leak.

Same thing in my ceramic coated Tsukigi. If the pipes require some force to push together, I imagine they will seal. I wouldn't put ant sticky stuff on there that will cause you a nightmare to fit the pipes together while on the bike.

If the headpipes attach with nuts and a flange(rather than springs). I would leave that very loose until the whole thing is fit together. If you need to tap any of the pipes together, you wouldn't want to damage the gaskets or the engine surface that they seal against. I had to tap one section of my system together and I supported it with my hand rather than with the connection to the motor. I actually assembled the pipes off the bike and twisted the connections a little to get the right fit.

Yeah , get new gaskets IMHO. Why not? if there is a leak, you can rule out gaskets.

Rook, before I put the header springs on, I put the springs on the collector (both sides) and the mufflers. So everything was sprong-ed (heh) except the headers at the exhaust ports.

Then I tap-tap-tapped it with a rubber mallet until I got it all nice and tight, then bolted the parts that bolt and tightened them snug but not final. Rechecked, tap-tap-tap, put the header springs on, and then final bolt tightening down at the back pipes.

I don't think I could have got it to hug the underside of the bike any more, most of that is Brock's design though.

And I agree, new exhaust system, why not put new exhaust gaskets on it?

I didn't use a screwdriver to remove the old ones, I have a set of varied shape picks, some in hook shape, some curved, a couple straight, etc.

I just used one with a slight bend on the end and edged it under each one and popped them out.

Cake.
