RKA Luggage
09/03/10 7:03 AM

This is a great luggage maker, and I have known them personally since the early 1990s.

All luggage is nylon, lined, with strong YKK zippers, and good mounting arrangements. It is ALL made by Richard and Kathy Battle in their shop in Sonoma CA.

I used their saddlebags, seat bag, and tank bag when I toured western Europe on my ZX11, and it came home looking like new. Despite driving rain storms, blazing heat, dirt, gravel, you name it.

They make, and sell, all sorts of things:

Luggage
Waist Packs
Map organizers
Apparel
Helmets
IMC headset products
Garmin GPS
Communications bags
Starcom
J&M products
Adaptiv TPX radar
Escort radar
Midland CB radios
Motorola FRS radios
Rammount
Powerlet

I refuse to put a sissy bar on a ZX14, if only out of principle.

And while I'm at it, what the hell did your post have to do with RKA as a manufacturer or its products ?

Sorry for offending you just agreeing about soft bags all thougth not the same!!!! you say would'nt put a sissy bar on well it aint and it can hold 90 ltrs of gear for touring, personally I would never out of princable put a "top box" and "hard cases" they look more out of place, I would only have them on a GTR1400(old mans ride) not on a ZX1400"SPORTS TOURER"

Heh to each his own. The ZX14 looks way cool fitted with hard side cases and top case. Lots of people fit them out that way, too, because it is a really good system for long distance sport touring.

There is a difference between a day trip and a week of sport touring.

Lets see, what am I taking for the Concours Owners Group (COG, they let me ride with them lol) Fall Rally next week ?

1) 2 person tent, fly, pegs, hammer
2) ground cloth
3) sleeping bag
4) sleeping pad and pillow
5) ultralight campstove
6) cookware, utensils
7) 4 days food
8) soap, toothbrush, razor, etc.
9) 4 changes of clothes, plus sneakers and sandal
10) rainsuit, rain gloves
11) bike rain cover and wheel lock
12) camp chair
13) Kindle
14) .... other stuff

I can pack all that, and still carry a passenger in comfort. Or I can put my big RKA seatbag on and carry another 50 liters of gear securely.

Plus the rack on the topcase which I haven't used yet.

So basically, I can carry everything I need to go coast-to-coast, and have fresh clothes every day, and a passenger as well if we stay in motels. Or solo, I can camp at KOAs and never visit a MickeyD along the way.

Thats what hard side cases and top cases and tank bags can do. What can your sissy bar do ?

The Sissy bar is to hold the pocket sleeve on the bag then theres too snap lugs to keep it down,if you need to keep the cowl on yer seat(solo riding) undo 1 screw each side and revearse the rack so the bag doesn't rub on the cowl and then it wont effect the balance of the bike,it carries my six box esky to work and wet weather gear plus lense/cleaning stuff+maps air gauge an stuff for day trips, when my wife /self go away for up to 1 week I put my 65-90ltr expanderble bag for that ! it holds our full wet weather gear+ 1 lid. the other as you know locks under the seat ! most of us over hear use the same Venturer system, it also has a pull out wet weather cover for extreme hard rain, if you dont wont the rack on(boy racing days) in 30 seconds it's off! plus it also supplies room for everything we need for 1week including the wifes big hair dryer we have an extensive lot of camping gear we bought 2 yrs ago, its still boxed from new, we use hotels ! so theres never bin a need to take it with us!!!!!
