2016 ZX14R
03/14/23 2:26 PM

Hi guys and gals
I'm from the United Kingdom i just picked up my 2016 model year ZX14, its been mapped and decatted and kicks out 205.9rwhp and 122 lbft, only done 40 miles on it so far

i also have a Gen2 busa 1406 cc with 206 hp so it will be interesting to see if the extra 10hp claim from Kawasaki marketing from RAM air actually exists????

is this the case RAM air 10hp increase??

here is my dyno curve versus a decatted Gen3 busa

them busas have good low down power but die beyond 7,000 rpm

Welcome mark3evo...

If there's the classic (in the States) "mustang vs. camaro" then "busa vs 14" is not quite as well known but it is also a classic scenario at this point.

There's substantive proof stock 14Rs are faster than Busas from 0 to top speed. And this makes sense, as 14Rs dyno more horsepower and torque, having a clear displacement advantage.

Side by side, the bikes visually have extremely similar profiles and lines it's clear whatever wind tunnel testing was done with one, similar results were found for the other. Similarly, either stock, weigh very similar and can benefit from similar simple upgrades like single sided exhaust to drop some weight. So there's no real advantage from aero or weight.

If you're Busa has upgrades and is making similar power, and if has a similar weight, I would expect similar performance. 14R is great, but it's not magical. 206 hp is 206 hp, and unless there's something very odd about the power curve there's going to be similar performance.

As far as the "10 hp from Ram air" you're probably talking at most a tenth of a second in the quarter mile. So don't expect anything magical from it. If you had your bike tuned on a dyno that did not have ram air compensation (usually ducts simulating air flow at speed feeding the ram air inlet) you may have tuned your "ram air gain" out and now your bike may run lean at 100+ mph speeds.

they are similar bikes but different, the busa has carbon wheels and ohlins and steers real quick, the ZED is still with stock wheels very planted , once the bars are turned she corners well, busa having done 105,000 miles i wanted s better bike for touring. i did not want to go down the route of a Gen3 with all the modern tech.
its still depth of winter here , so looking forward to adding some mileage real quick

fortunately the bike tuner is a ZX14R owner amd maps these and busas all the time for Top speed , so would definitely
have the RAM AIR function on, he has mapped my old busa and this ZED for the lsst owner

From time to time people have done comparisons, befores and afters. I don't know if anyone has ever done so with carbon fiber wheels vs stock aluminum, and put down some real numbers. Butt dyno has proven so unreliable, at least to me, someone saying "it pulls way harder" means less than a dog turd pile. you potentially have a few scenarios you could test with if you were so inclined, i'd probably be most interested in carbon fiber vs OE wheel difference.

i bought the wheels to aid turn-in, massive improvement over stock wheels for directional change, more flickable
i did not buy them for acceleration

its a mod the zed should have

I didn't intend to imply anything. But it is interesting to think of it as changing the handling as well. Still, it could be a cool real world back to back type testing we rarely get.

Between the intake bladders, the air cleaner element, and the air being forced in that hole, if it were me chasing HP, the air element would be removed. The 10hp is still linear. It just does not popup as a single number, but at full pressure.

Lighter wheels are just that. Better handling.

No offence taken Victhink
I should add more emojis to the post
I’m not that used to forum controls just yet

Some say light wheels wear out tyres less, but no effect on the dyno

Mark, I had my 14R on a dyno. Pulls with and without ram air. To see if the ram air actually worked, I blew a leaf blower into the ram air opening and it gained 7 horsepower. My friends BMW S1000RR went from 174 hp to 180 hp with the leaf blower. Ram air does work, but I saw 7 hp, not 10.

i guess this works with the busa

i have been using a datalogger and did some roll on in the gears

my original gen2 busa with remap 4 in 1 akra, short stacks making 195 hp with 113lbft torque

v same bike but with 1406cc gas flowed heads, cams, wossner rods and pistons 206hp and 118 lbft (but gas flowed heads had combustion chambers enlarged , tuner thought i was having a turbo so compression was 2 pts down should have been 13.5:1 not 11.6:1 SO LACKING in low down power and torque - this is being corrected now

v ZX14 remapped decatt 206 hp and 122 lbs foot (all dyno pulls are DIN)
ZX14 is 20kg (44 lbs) heavier than busa

i have a foot in both camps KAWA and Suzook

zx14 and Busa figures are approx the same

i'm taking the ZX to Finland as the luggage options are better - large roll bag with tent can be fitted in line with the bike, so our of the breeze
plus the ZX is more comfortable for 10 hour in the saddle rides

I like the enormous Zed a lot - currently completed 3,500 miles and have another 3,000-mile ride going from the UK to Finland on Aug twentieth. Maximum velocity occasion check whether my ZZR can make the 200 mph
