Bulkhead Covers Removal
Removing the access doors is something that is a part of several fairly common procedures from simple routine cleaning to turbo installation. Removing the doors is simple but there are a couple of important points to remember which are mentioned in this tutorial.
Tools:
10mm socket
silicone grease
Do First:
Remove fuel tank (see Fuel Tank Removal, steps 1 through 9).
Disconnect the inlet air temperature sensor lead (see step 1, Air Temperature Sensor Removal).
Removal
1. Clean all dust and dirt off of the top of the air box especially around the edges of the access covers.
2. Use a 10mm socket to remove the screws from both bulkhead covers. Remove the bulkhead covers. Take precautions to avoid letting any foreign matter enter the air box through the air box access holes. The air box is downstream of the air filter and the intake ducts are directly below.
Installation
3. The RH cover has an R molded into it and the LH cover has the air temperature sensor. Apply a film of silicone grease to the rubber gaskets on the underside of each cover and position them on the access holes.
4. Tighten the access cover screws with a 10mm wrench, drawing them up evenly. DO NOT use thread locking agent. Tighten these screws “gently snug”. They thread into metal sleeves that rotate to prevent over tightening. It’s possible that the sleeves could rotate instead of allowing the screw to thread out if the screws are tightened too much. It would be probable that this would happen if thread locking agent was used.
Connect the inlet air temperature sensor lead (see step 1, Air Temperature Sensor Removal).
Install fuel tank (see Fuel Tank Removal, steps 10 through 14)
