Had an off-road excursion a couple of weeks ago and the Blue Whale is totaled. Might have gotten by with cosmetic damage, but hit and broke a large tree root which sent it cartwheeling. Frame crossmember that attaches the suspension linkage was sheared off, so it's a part-out at this point. Fork appears ok and I need to fire up the engine to check that. I will make a list later of f/s items, but if anyone has an interest in anything, please shoot me a pm.

My right collarbone was broken, requiring surgery to repair. Might have some cracked ribs, too, but nothing really serious.

76,xxx miles on a Gen 1 and it was running like a striped ape. I will need to get it fired up to check, but I think everything under the plastic is ok-no leaks or smashed engine covers.

I hope you get yourself all back to ship shape ASAP. DAmn, cracked ribs are better than broken ribs but that tells me you could have been a goner. I'm glad you're ok, danno. Sorry about the bike though. A part out is the best way to go on a gen1. Yeah, mine feels as strong as ever at 40k and I've whooped it's ass plenty. I think it would be very interesting to get a Gen2 engine in a Gen1 though.

I hope you're planning on getting a new bike ?

I've been sniffing around Cycle Trader, but can't ride until July. I appreciate the kind words and good wishes.

Hi Danno, hoping your breaks, cracks and bruises heal up and no complications. Somewhere I saw a thread that showed how to put the late model engine in an early model. I think the engine bolted right in but had to use the later model computer and timing plate. I do not know where I saw it so it may be google time.

The part-out has begun. Shock and brakes are sold. Have interest in the engine. Radiator, forks, lowered pegs, bar adapter etc are all good. left middle fairing is intact as are tail fairings. The rest of the plastic and the frame is scrap (sheared lower crossmember). Brake rotors, chain and sprocket and wheels are all on the block. PM me with any needs. The Givi side bags were not on the bike although the top case was and sustained no dMage. All for sale.

And factory-optional centerstand if anyone’s interested. Figure 50% of new retail for good used parts.
