Anybody Else Do Dirtbikes?..

The KDX..

Stock except for the pipe and silencer. Re-sprung the forks, added the Maier MX rear fender, chain guide, bar, and handguards. Replaced all the linkage bearings, ODO cable, chain & sprockets, jetting dialed, plus the general maintainence needed to keep from having to walk several miles out of the woods.
Fun change from the street.

Yes, I ride dirt bikes and quads also. I like more than street bikes thats for sure. I can use the bike without worrying about getting tickets!

Done a bit of changing to the KDX since I first posted this..

Hopefully get a chance to try it out tomorrow or Sunday (11-27/28). Going to have to take them back off for a complete rebuild next week, got a leak in both of them from the valve assemblies. New bushings, seals, all the valve o-rings and copper gasket (that's leaking). And if need be, some changing on the shim stacks to soften it up a bit for woods riding.

Hillbillytom,
I was reading your signature on "'04 KDX 200 dirt bike, that I manage to hurt myself with on a regular basis". I just purcahse the Gaerne SG-12 Boot and it one awesome boot. It is going to do a great job on protecting my ankles, calves, and shins. http://www.gaerneusa.com/sg12 They are expensive but so are injurys. by the way that is one clean kdx 200! nice job with it.

I have A-Stars Tech 3s for now, broken in and feel great. I wear all the gear, knee guards, elbow guards, chest protector, neck roll, still seem to bang myself up ever so often. Mostly just bruises, pulled muscles, and tweaked joints (I'm 53, not quite as bendable as I used to be). So far (fingers and toes crossed) the worst has been some cracked ribs once, and a mildly torn MCL (could still walk, but that one was close).
My goal is to have as much fun with it as possible, and still be able to work in the steel shop on Monday. Knocked around and bruised up I can deal with, just can't have any broken bones.

And I'm not done with that KDX yet. Still several more things on the list for it. Building a Green KTM.

Those AStars Tech 3's were my second choice. I tried them on and they were really comfortable.I didnt like the tech 10's or 8's. I dont like the booties. The Tech 3 was a much better boot than I thought it was going to be. The extra protection and added comfort won me over. Not to mention the straps were much nicer to adjust. I know I am going to not buy new boots again for at least five years so I figure I would splurge on the cost. At the same time I could have purchased two pairs of tech 3's for the price on the SG-12.I dont wear knee gaurds, neck gaurds, or elbow gaurds though. Maybe I should but it felt so restrictive to me.

You about have to wear everything you can here. Riding on almost nothing but rocks, both loose and ledge, all my gear has gouges and grooves in it from falling on that stuff.
First time I rode with the neck collar, the YZ250 I had before the KDX flung me off (again) at about 25mph, into the rocks, on my upper back and the back of my head. Neck roll caught between my chin bar and chest protector stopped what might have been a major problem. Have wore it religeously ever since.
A souvenir of the off..

I've got an old '96 CR250 that I've been throwing around for a long time now -- but she's tore down for rebuild right now.......countershaft seized and blew the trans along with both case halves - so it's about as detrimental as it could get, but at least the top-ends still good!
