Akraprovic exhaust
07/25/23 6:25 PM

Looking for some advice from someone who has actually had this situation. I need to remove my full Akrapovic titanium exhaust mufflers, not the header. Pulled all the bolts and loosened the clamp. The mufflers will not come off. Tried tapping the muffler at the brace for the centerstand with a rubber mallet. After about 30 minutes it had only moved a 1/4 inch, then no further. I do not want to damage the system. Anyone run into this and what techniques worked. Thanks

1. Soak PB Blaster or alternative penetrating oil

2. HEAT!!!! A torch of some kind. You should be able to get
it pretty hot without messing it up.

3. Bigger hammer and Fred Flintstone that thing.

The fact that it moved at all is a good sign.

Piken. Yeah, I am not into beating things to death to solve the issue. I was hoping for someone who had the same setup that had a tried and true method. I do plan on applying some sort of penetrating oil and running the bike to heat it up. Then hitting the mid pipe with some Freon or other cooling spray. A pair of heavy duty leather gloves. I know titanium does not like to be hammered on.

oil if you can get it in there. Then hit alternatively each muffler front where it comes off the midpipe. It should slide off after a few hits. You don't want the connection area to be hot, only the pipe that the midpipe(or muffler pipe)slides INTO.(assuming it slides over the inner pipe.) ....If I'm understanding this right.Work the muffler up and down also as you pull on it.

Yes it slides on. I hope to heat the muffler pipe so it expands and cool the mid pipe so it contracts. But that will be difficult to accomplish. I find it odd it moves about a half inch back and then locks up. I have tried wiggling it side to side, up and down and round and round. I have tried to twist it, but it will not twist. I have never run into such an uncooperative bastar*.

Update: so like I said the exhaust would not disassemble to be removed from the bike. I could see flexing on the rear flange around the rivets on the muffler, so I did not want to force it. So while I worked on my house I would spray it with pd blaster and fire it up for a minute or two. Did this every now and then, until I had time to really work on it. Did it have any effect? Who really know. Last nite I attempted to take it off. It felt stuck. So I removed the passenger foot peg assembly and bracket. This allowed me to gently wiggle and twist. One last shot of PD and bravo. It slid right off like it was never stuck. Same with the mid pipe. I will wipe it with some high temp anti seize. Now I replace the Brock’s expense lowering link with stock links. Bring the bike back up to stock height. Anyone need a set of adjustable lowering links?
