I ran two exhausts and both were with the stripper 14. That means, the cat with the wrap made the same water bar show up as if I had the setup I have now. Same 3 bars in traffic. 2 bars on the freeway. 3 bars if hot in the ambient. Therefore, no change, no over heating. I more match what the covered bikes temp run at.

Did the advancer lower a water bar? I guessed at my advance and concur with datta and Roman.

Yes, without question, I would have my header ceramic coated again. I've said it many times. That was the best mod I have done to my bike. I got lucky and was able to borrow a header from another member, he bought a full system. Took it in to get coated. When I got it back I slapped it on and shipped my header back to him. That way I didn't loose any ride time. I have an 06, so I didn't have to worry about the catalytic converter in the header itself. If you have that, I'm sure you would need to remove it first.

I have a zx-14 and I have a cooling issue, when I go for a ride and stop some where my problem is that after a few seconds or so the coolent will start to come out the over flow tank tube onto the ground but the bike really don't show but four bar's when I shut it down what is the problem? I done changed from the 1.1 to the 1.6 radiator cap and put in the engine ice wraped the headers with headeder wraped which keeps it cooler at traffic light's but still when I go to stop the bike and shut it down to go in some where it still will over flow onto the ground but only when I shut the bike down help!!

Engine Ice sucks! It works great for a short period of time but degrades very quickly. You will also have to pull it out and put something else in for winter if you live where it gets cold,it has no antifreezee in it.I think it's made for racing only if you ask me.

From the Engine Ice Site

Engine Ice Hi-Performance Coolant is biodegradable, phosphate free & non-toxic; while reducing operating race temperatures by as much as 50°F and effectively keeping boil over temperatures to 256 °F or less and freeze-up protection to -27° F.

Hi guys, new to the forum. Just picked up a 2007 ZX-14, but it started overheating. While I was riding I didn't see the overheating display by got 4 bars. Then she stopped on me twice and wouldn't move, until she cooled down. The second time I didn't have enough time to get totally off the road. Is this common? Anyone had this problem? Any suggestions?

No, it's not common. There's something wrong. Is your coolant level OK? Has the coolant been changed recently and perhaps there is some air in the cooling system?

3 bars is smack in the middle and optimum temp. 4 bars should be no big deal. I've seen 5 bars on a hot day. You shouldn't see an overheat warning flash on your multifunction meter until you are past 6 bars, from what I hear.

hope it's something simple like low coolant.

Seams like you have air in your system Did you bleed the air out whn you changed the coolent if you didn't then you should start there then check for fan operation then therm switch Just go back to basics you'll find it ...xxx's

Thanks, seems like the consensus is air in the cooling system. I'll have it checked. The bike is at the dealer now. They say everything is working fine, but I'll have them flush the cooling system. The most work I’ve done on my bike is change the oil; don’t feel like I know enough to work on it. But I figured the people who have the bike know the bike.

Soon as I get the bike back, I'll put up some pictures. Thanks again

My initial thought is that an unapproved coolant must have been added by the guy you purchased the bike from. He probably saw that the coolant was low, and grabbed the bottle that he had in the garage to fill his car's system with, and used it. Just like with car's all coolant's don't work. It will make your car or bike in the case sputter out and stop. This would then mean that you would need to have you coolant system flushed, and replaced with the proper coolant that the owners manual list.

I have to say thanks to everyone. We never found a smoking gun to the problem. Everything was checked, radiator, thermostat, hoses, water pump etc. everything was fine. We put in some Engine Ice and she's running like she should be. I got the bike back 8/27. And I have been riding ever since. I get two bar sometimes, usually three bars. I saw four bars a few times, but once I started rolling it went back to three. I'm thinking the pervious owner did top the coolant off and that caused the problem. I have another question, but I'll have to start a new string for it. Anyway, I'm loving this bike. Thanks again.

Hate to break this to you fellas but here goes.
You have been spending too much for coolant.
Engine Ice is merely premixed Propylene Gylcol in a very fancy package.Roughly $20 for 1/2 gallon
You can get twice as much Propylene Gylcol at half the price by using Preston Low Tox. About $10 a gallon !
It is also Propylene but not premixed. So you with have to get some distilled water ($1-2) and mix it yourself.
Now you have 2 gallons of coolant that has corrosive inhibitors and claims to run 10 degrees cooler (50/50 mix) than Engine Ice claims!!!
Havent noticed a bit of difference between the 2 in my 22,000 mile 06 that runs hot due to a Cox radiator screen and probably a custom map that runs a bit rich.
Dont feel bad though. I have a half jug of Engine Ice on the shelf to remind Me of my snake oil purchase.

Engine Ice isnt for racing. Water is. Propylene is still slick stuff and not allowed on RR tracks I believe.
Dirt Bike did extensive coolant tests a couple of years ago.
The coolest was water with a wetting agent (Water wetter etc.)
Proylene ran cooler than Ethylene Gylcol though.

You're the first person I've seen who says your bike runs hot because of a Cox radiator screen, but I've noticed the same thing. I guess it has to, as it can't help but inhibit the air flow somewhat... -bg

It creates turbulence I guess.
Has to block a measurable amount of flow too.
I installed a switch on my fan for city/slow riding.
Took care of high temps sitting in traffic. (Not something I do much of)
Also removed the airfoils from front fender.
Probably going with ceramic coating on the exhaust this winter.
Looks and heat coating. My Tuskigi has 3 winters of riding and the header pipes look like poop.

I have a cox guard ready to go on my turbo 14...I guess its a good thing I got a second fan with a manual switch. I was wondering if the guard was going to restrict enough air flow to be a problem...it looks like I'm getting my answer. Thanks for the info guys

I have a second fan and ceramic coated the header. No heat issues at all. Gets to 3 and never goes above. The fans kick on when it gets there.

The cox guard has no doubt saved my rad once that I know of. I hit "something" while out one day and it was a hard enough hit to break the black trim on one side of the fender. Looked up in there and saw an impact mark on the guard. Just my .02, but I think it is well worth the $$.
