Rattle, no way. The backing clip is a pretty stiff spring and it pulls the fasteners and the fairings together as hard as the OEM fasteners. The front fastener on the top fairing is very tight. There is a plastic washer that can be used under the head of each fastener so no scratch from that. The D rings fold over and I believe they contact the paint in one spot. That may prove to be a problem for the paint. Have not noticed yet. I imagine the D ring could be cut with a wire cutter and pulled out? Never tried. then you could just use a screwdriver to remove/install the 1/4 turn fasteners....of course they make Dzus fasteners that are Straight slot only or hex key only w/o a D ring. The D rings have some kind of internal spring so they stay folded. They will not rattle back and forth.

When I first put the fasteners in the top/middle fairings, I noticed the gap between those two parts. You may see that in the pics I posted. IDK --I think that is present even with the oEM fasteners. Doesn't show too much on a black bike. One thing, that gap does show the backing clip through it. Not too noticeable but I do recommend a paint touch up to camouflag the clip. A blue perm marker might work fine for a blue bike, black marker is fine for a black bike.

Installing the backing clips to the inside of the fairings will cause scraping of the paint but only on the inner tabs. No problem. Could just repaint that with touch up paint if necessary.

No, Coots. No problem with paint so far. I've put close to 500 miles on the bike. each ring touches the fairing in one tiny spot but all I see is that a water/dust spot accumulated there from my ride in the rain. Wiped right off. I
will keep my eye on it though.

Update

I have been wanting to upgrade to Pro-Bolt anodized aluminum Dzus fasteners but I have ordered the wrong length and then reordered and it was still wrong. Problem is, KurveyGurl calls their fasteners 14mm which is working length (under the head to the catch on the shaft) and that is great for the 14's panels. I ordered Pro-Bolt 14 mm and they were way too short. They are measured 14mm from under the head to the tip. ???? So I measured the KurveyGurls from under the head to the tip and it looked about 18mm or a hair more. Pro-bolt comes in 17mm and 19mm, no 18mm. I ordered 19mm. TOO LONG. They work, but they do not pull much tension on the clip.

just checked KurvyGurl site and they claim the shaft length of their 14mm is 17mm --so that must be the right length to order in Pro-Bolt.

Also, Pro-Bolt has an expanded head which requires dremmeling to fit through the fairing holes.

I'm ordering 17mm now. might as well. Prolly could bend the clips to make the 19mm work but I have enough other things on the bike to screw with (pun intended).

dam. this sh!t's expensive

I will add to the original post when I get the Pro-Bolt upgrade figured out. soon I hope.

17mm Pro-Bolt Dzus fasteners work well. I used 19mm Pro-Bolt Dzus fasteners for the forwardmost holes in the top fairing. All Pro-Bolt fasteners required a dremmeling to reduce the tip so it would fit through the fairing holes. I did not replace the clip because what Pro-Bolt sells looks exactly the same as the clips I already have from Kurvey Girl.

The Pro-Bolt Dzus fasteners feel like they grind a bit when I turn them. They are not as smooth as the Kurvey Girl fasteners and they don't fit as well but they are lighter and they are beautifully anodized.

I will post pics of installed fasteners if winter ever lets up long enough to take the bike out
