Leather Jacket Cleaner?
09/09/14 5:39 AM

Hi All,
I have three Alpinestars MX-1 leather jackets.
One black, one blue and white and one red and white.
Obviously the black one is not too bad but the white areas on the red and blue jackets are getting quite dirty and discolored, especially at the top rear above the back protector where the back of my helmet rubs.
Any advise on whats best to use to clean and also maintain these leather jackets?
I'm keen to keep the white and colors on these jackets as crisp as possible and keep the leather in as good condition as possible.
Thanks.

Yannih, I have a blue and white Teknic leather jacket with the same problem. Layers of dirt and bugs that don't just wash off with soap and water. I didn't want to damage the leather with anything harsh, so I dropped it off at my local dry cleaner shop. They sent it out to a place that cleans a lot of leather. It took 3 weeks to get it back, but they did a great job... looked almost new. Cost $30 US. I'll probably do that each year.

I am interested in any product that I can apply to protect the leather in between cleanings, if anyone has suggestions. When I lived in England I used a product called "Dale's Dubbin" on my leathers. It was a thick paste, some kind of oil or lanolin that worked it's way into the leather. It was a good protectant and made the leather more water resistant. I haven't found it here in the US, perhaps we have something similar?

Saddle soap will get the black grime and black stains from my helmet off the white leather sections?

I've been using an English product called Renapur Leather Balsam for conditioning my leathers for about 30 years. Highly recommended. I haven't used their leather cleaner so cant give an opinion on it.

Here's a link to the US Renapur site

Yannih, as you are in Australia, here's a link to the Aussie supplier

Billygoat designs

I have no affiliation with the product or suppliers -just really like the product!
