insurance

as some of u know i went down and stuff.. well insurance paid but now they canceled my policy due to my driving record... well it figures, as i have had everithing from parking to espeeding (doing 180 on a 65 speed limit) wreckless driving (drag racing on back roads) and soo on, but for the last 3 years i have not had anything on my record.. but well i guess insurance comp doesnt like when they have to pay so they canceled my policy, so now im looking for a new provider but im looking at this quotes and they r insane!!!!! they go anywhere from $4000 to $12000 just for the bike for a year, since i have not finished paying for it i need full cover.

well my question is if anyone wants to answer... who has urs covered, and how much do u pay?
and also where do they come out with this numbers, as i dont think a $15000 dollar bike should be insured for $12000 a year!!! with that money i can bike a bike every year and be the happiest man on earth...

With your driving/riding history I would recommend some KY jelly and Tylenol PM because you’re going to get raped no mater were you go!

oly FOCK! That's a hell of a resume you have, jp. I'm a little amazed that they didn't roll you right into high risk as soon as you got nabbed for doing 115 over. (how the hell did they ever catch you if you don't mind sharing that story? It's gotta be an awesome tale!)

My advice, Screw the insurance. If you were going to claim the pot, best to have done it on a major crash and ONLY with a clean record. Those cards were played some time ago. Now, you go to the track and ride as fast as you want. You will know what fast is and No cops will bother you. What you once thought was fast on the street will seem like kid stuff. With the money you save on not carrying ins, you will be able to pay for a crash easily.

your still playing the odds with your life and health but mucho, mucho better chances than on the street where you die over 60 mph in many cases. SO don't die. That is the last card. You hang on to that one for natural causes, you win!

Get a nice used track bike on wera

That's where I plan to look.

Come to Black Hawk Farms and meet me next Summer. I will still ride in Novice class. It is a small track for a big hyperbike but I had a lot of fun and once out in front i can do what I want.

jp, I'm pretty sure you will be asked to pay outrageous premiums no matter who you go to. Ins co are pretty conservative. That's their stock in trade.

I've found the online ins quote sites to be totally accurate. Go to Geico or State Farm or Allstate and You can plug in your age, and a few other factors and get a quote. It will show you what normal rates are but for a history with many violations, I'm sure that would be more of a case by case basis.

yes i admit to having a bad rec, but it was like 5 years ago and insurance only ask if i have had anything in the las 5, so idk why is it soo high, well ever since i was little i have loved speed, well mostly cuz of my dad, i grew up in colombia and the roads there r nothing like the ones here in the states, u dont see many straght lines, so mi dad used to love to make all tires on the car slide a little as he was taking the curves and i loved it, well needless to say i started driving and folowed my dads steps, trying to go a little faster on the curves, drag racing even on my mountanbike and sometimes even on foot.. lol, well i moved here, bought my first car, it was a 92 toyota corolla, it wasnt fast at all but i started working on the engine a little, changed the trottle bodies, and some stuff, started going to races after work, sometimes won, others lost, got my first bike here, a 02 r6, started mooding, crached my car, insurance paid so went and got a 91 300zx tt, changed the turbos, and some internals, pistons and valves mostly, made more boost, got it to make 480hp at the weel started racing the car, mostly won, got a bunch of speedint tix, specially the one i mentioned b4 due to be coming from stlouis to chicago racing a z06 and a nsx, they had radar detectors and i didn't so i got that, went to court a bunch of times, licence suspended for some time, so couldnt use car, started using bike more, and stunning, broke a few bones, got licence back, was working about 80hrs a week, so fell sleep on way home and crached the 300zx, got a maxima, took it to the races a few times and won a few as it had the same engine as the 300zx but no turbos, but it was stick, and im some good at power shifting and all that, sold bike, got a fiero gt, it had a corvett engine bur body was in bad shape, got a nissan pathfinder wanting to do some ofroading, did it for a while, police took it away as they got me driving w/o insurance, didnt wanna pay to get it back, so just keept fiero and got a 2004 r1, starting going to the track in joliet, autobhan and chicagoland speedway, liked it, didnt go street racing no more, r1 got stolen, sold fiero, got lancer, met my wife, got the rover, got married, got viper, and finally my zx14, and is in the proces of getting ready for next summer at the track, if work lets me...

but yea, that is a little about my life w cars.

lol, dude, you are hard core.

You have 20X more experience with this than anyone around here.

I am no ins expert but I have a very strong hunch that Ins Cos trade that sorta info back and forth all the time. They are not in business to give you the best deal. They NEED to charge more than they pay out. It may take you more than 5 years to live down that record. Making a claim makes you more of a risk too. That is why Insurance blows. You better not use it unless you really need to.

I guess I would ask the companies why the high quotes. I am sure they will tell you you're in the high risk pool. I would say you are on the way to smoothing over that history but it may take more than 5 years. If the insurance co tells you you are high risk, couldn't hurt to ask how much longer you will be considered as such. You will be paying ins for some time just so you can drive. Don't even think about making a claim. Pay out of pocket.

as you might have gathered, I don't have a lot of faith in insurance. It is not something to look at as an investment, it is always 100% expense. IMO, we all have ins so we can drive. Nobody should use insurance for a claim because they will only turn around and jack your rate more than they already do.

You have ins for nothing. It's air. You pay and follow the rules. Makes as much sense as police spending most of their effort to apprehend speeders.

jp, you are just going to have to get legal minimum (required) coverage and nothing else, and quit wrecking because you won't be able to afford comprehensive or collision on a bike for probably 10 years.

Even that kind of policy is going to cost an arm and a leg. Don't believe the 5 years stuff, they don't forget much more than a 1 minor speeding ticket in 5 years. But look around.

I too grew up around race cars, in the pits, on the track. My father put me in a midget when I was like 6 years old just to see what I could do. I rode a drag bike sponsored and built by a Kawasaki dealership in Alabama. Ran fast enough on California highways to go directly to jail if I had been caught. Got some monster speeding fines. My insurance crept up until it was over $1,000 / year for the car, but I was making 6 figures then (1980s)so I could afford it.

Somewhere along the way I grew up and quit driving like a fucking idiot.

I pay $386 / year to State Farm for my ZX14, for 100,000 / 100,000 / 50,000 / with 500 deductible comprehensive and collision. Of course, my ZX14 is for sale, so I don't know what the new policy will be for a 2012 C14, but I doubt it will be more, probably less, actually.

Its all you, bud. Its your wrist that turns the throttle, and your right foot that steps on the accelerator pedal.

thanks privateer, well i after all that i did growup somewut, but i still like to go fast but now i try and do it only at the track, well for the cars im paying about $2800 a year for all 3, and as for the bike i talked to one of my best friends wife who sells insurance, and she got me a great deal for all 3 cars plus the bike for $4000 a year, me and my wife, with allstate, but also since i dont use the viper on bike for the winter im only paying about $3000 a year in reality, and that is much better then $15000 the others wanted.

also the company that droped me was statefarm but we also had the dumbest representative there, as he had the chance to not let that happened, but he never contacted us so that is why it got canceled, and i could have contested the termination, but i didnt wanna waste my time and money on that, and at the end it all worked out for the better, as we lowered the premium like $1000.

but thanks everyone for ur honest responce.

i feel for ya, I had Geico it was like 400 a yr. then switched to Michigan (no fault state) Geico don't insure bikes in Michigan so had to go with Allstate and it jumped up to 680 a yr for full coverage. When i first moved up here I had 3 tickets on my record and like you I was getting quotes for like 4000 and that was the low quote. So i kept it licensed in ohio till the tickets dropped off (3yrs)
