track day with storage oil?
04/05/12 1:48 PM

Had the 14 stored 4 months in unheated garage with 4 quarts Rotella synthetic + how ever much extra conventional oil I had sitting around required to fill the brand new filter (about 1/3 quart I think).

Bike may do a 400 mile tour this weekend on the storage oil. Track day scheduled in two weeks. Should I change the oil for the track or just leave in and change right after?

I'd leave it. You are using good oil. It's plenty good for the trip and the track.

cool.man. I was sorta thinkin the same. I mean, if the bike was brand new maybe I would be extra cautious butthe way I see it, the synthetic should be fine after 3 months in the bike w/o running the motor. If I were to change it, I would have to use the gallon of Rotella that ha sat in the basement over winter. Not much dif either way. I doubt there is even much if any moisture in the crankcase. I put her to sleep on a warm day and got no fog on the sight glass after dumping last season's oil from a warm engine.

Thanks Mad. This is going to be a great season. The bike looks so cool. Can't wait.
