Chain cleaning Nature's way
10/22/09 5:56 PM

I had to make an hour commute this morning in the rain. It never let up the whole time there or back. I have heard a couple times that rain riding is the best way to clean a chain. Seems to have done the trick but a couple hours on the highway is much better than my usual unfortunate getting caught in a rainstorm for 20 minutes. The chain is sparkling clean. The only grease left on it was a tiny bit around each pin. I cleaned what little gunk was on the sprocket with WD and waxed the chain. The chain hasn't been so clean since it was new.

Iron Mountain. It's my home town. Looks like 50 -70% chance of rain. No thanks, not with 200 miles to traverse. Chain is clean enough. Tomorrow will be zaust day 1.

I have a buddy that lives there. He does the Radio Control thing for the area.

You have a fortunate buddy. I would love to live back there but one doesn't just pick up and move to Iron Mountain to seek their fortune. It is a great place but you either have to grow up there and not leave or have a job offer around there. The economy hit them hard and it hasn't exactly been a boom town for a hundred years. It's a wonderful place though and there are a lot of nice people.

Iron Mt. has a special little place in my heart as well, there is an old R.R. grade that starts there and heads west thru MI and WI, we run our dual purpose bikes on that thing several times a year, I have not done it for a while and I really miss it. 80mph on a rr grade with knobbies equals about 140mph on the bix ZX on the adrenaline scale.

^^No doubt. I used to ride off road all over the place up here when i was a kid. Never very fast but it was a lot of fun.

I'm here in IM now for Xmas with snow all around. wipping across a lake at 120 on a sled has to be up there on the adrenaline scale too.

Ice racing. Now THERE'S an adrenaline surge you won't forget.

Lake Coeur d'Alene ID (forget I said that- it's too freaking crowded now!) in the dead of winter with 18" of ice and a 15 mile North-South run beats Bonneville hands down...
