Coolant
10/21/09 5:25 PM

With the cool weather here I noticed after I ride for an hour or so and come home
and park it the next day it has coolant dripping under it. I'm only getting 2-3 bars.
Bike is stock with 1300 miles
Any thoughts thanks

I hope not-but maybe you have a bad gasket or something?Doesn't sound good.Where is it coming from-1300 miles-she's still breaking in IMO.Maybe pull your left lower fairing and see if you can find the leak.Could just be an untightened hose clamp?Gotta find the source there rayers.Mine had ONE TIME just a small dried line of whitish/yellowish powder coming down the left engine case around the reservoir.Wiped it off-never happened again.STILL don't know WHAT it was-but I'm guessing it was coolant. That happened about the same mileage(I think) as yours, maybe less even.Sounds more like a hose fitting to me though. That's a new bike-most likely something simple and easily fixable.

Could be overflowing if your reservoir is way overfull. Make sure you look at that on the back of the bottle, left hand side, under side fairing. I doubt that is it. Mine never gets high no matter how hot the bike gets.

Are you sure it is coolant and not gas? Gas will drain from a breather tube if you fill the tank above the splash gaurd and then park it. There could be some goop that drips out with it to. Take a look at the end of all your drain tubes to see if any are wet.

Hope ya got er fixed Rayers-here's a thought.A LONG while back someone posted some pics of their airbox inside.Think it was the OLD FORUM so they're probably way gone by now-BUT-the pics clearly showed GREEN FLUID inside the edge of the airbox-possibly around the drain hole outlet.I can't remember now if they figured out WHAT they were looking at...but somehow the coolant apparently got up inside the airbox.Maybe it was oil mixed with rain water-but it LOOKED to me exactly like coolant in there.Perhaps that's occurring with yours?Although I don't know HOW it could get in there-but maybe somehow it's being sucked in there?I know-it's a LONG SHOT.But if you've got drips under yer bike, and no apparent leaks-who knows?Overflow tube connects to the airbox.(water drain). You don't by any chance have a BMC filter,or one of those you spray with oil after you clean em do you?Another guy had that happening with his-played hell tryin to figure out WHERE the OIL LEAK WAS.Thought it was his valve cover-but there wasn't any evidence of oil blowing back or anything. Finally tracked it down to his Air filter-too much oil in it and raining conditions.

blue07 That's a no on the filter. I took the lower fairing off last night the tubes were all
dry but the lower fairing was wet with coolant. So took her to the stealer this
morning since she's still under warranty. We'll see what they say while their scratching
their heads. Thanks again for the input.

A radiator guard is a must on a ZX14. Very bad planning on Kawi's part. Busa, BMW, all got decent guards. My mate had a stone through his 800km's into an iron butt, so that was sad for him. He has an 06 and this happened end August. Wise move, Blue.
