New to dragracing
07/12/09 11:18 AM

I took my ZX14 to a local track yesterday and made a few passes, before these passes I made one attempt last year. I am no professional But I like to see what you think of my times.I was slow off the line worse being a 1.235 and best being a 0.863 RT.

1st pass :10.78@138.07 rt 0.923
2nd pass :10.55@137.82 rt 0.883
3rd pass :10.63@139.88 rt 0.863
4th pass :10.34@137.40 rt 1.235
5th pass :10.73@136.77 rt 1.210

I need to work on my RT'S and getting my bike to WOT as soon as possible and I found myself slipping on the seat as well, fix these few things I be hittin a lil better numbers.Pretty good for a beginner though dont ya think? I am hooked.

Not too bad.

A little more details would help. But just fyi, the reaction time has no affect on your elapsed time. Instead, your 60' measurements are a much better indicator of how well you're riding the bike.

Also, knowing what your modifications are, gearing, and YOUR weight will help out alot too.

10.34 sounds about right for a stock bike, and 190-200 lb rider.

You need to slip that clutch more and get harder on the throttle. You need to be fully off the clutch before shifting to 2nd. Good idea to short shift the 3rd and 4th gear (ie, no clutch, just quickly chop the throttle to shift.) Get the strap brackets, and strap the front too. For comparison, im 6'4'', 205, and probably 235 suited in full leathers. With just a strap, flies out, stock exhaust no PC3, I ran a best of 10.02 at 147, that was 2 years ago.

Im headed to the track tomorrow and getting back into it. Im going there with M4 exhaust, PC3 mapped, Lowering links, strapped, MPS air shifter, stock gearing. Hope to get in the 9's, but have to get out of the hole faster than on the street.

Saw my buddies fist time drag slips from last weekend. His times looked about the same as yours. He has an 06 with flies out, Muzzy M-10, PC, custom tune from Fuel Moto, lowered stretched and maybe after market air filter. Ran the tire with 10# of air and used race fuel. He put a light rider on his 14 and that guy got a 9.9.

newf, shut down the tre. Report the times next time out. Yep, be consistent. You'll do fine.

O.K so explain rebound and dampening......Rebound is the shock comming back after compression?? and Dampening is the compression on the shock??
If I am correct you would want the shock to dampen fast and rebound slower for dragracing?? all the way turned in on dampening and all the way out for rebound or vice versa??
Some help thanks.

Basically, yes.

I don't remember which adj screw is which though. I have a buddy that is a mastermind at suspension who helps me adjust mine at the track.

I do know that you never want to turn it all the way in one direction. All the way, and then back a 1/4 turn will be much better.

Squat fast, come back up slow.

at 215 you should be in the 9.50 range if you have an airshifter. 9.70ish if youre footshifting (and good at it)
