Squeak,Brakes
08/30/09 2:25 PM

I was replacing my bent rotor when I noticed the exact Squeak that I use to hear (sometimes) while applying front brakes. I do not know if this is the Same squeak that I use to read about here on the forums. But maybe it is ? The pins fill full of brake dust and rub on the hole in the brake pads. The clip shown here was also packed. While I was removing the pins each turn gave me the same high pitch Squeak. My pads were worn but not that bad. All clean now. No squeak on the re-installation of the same pins with the new pads. The new pads are made of a different material I hope there is less brake dust. The new pads have their own new noise. Go figure. I hope this helps. Cheers.

Looking straight on, the pads shown here in my hand, left side is stock right side is new. The new pads do not have the grove cut into them.

Ah-ha. Brake pads. Mine squeaked also but what pretty much cured that for me was a change of braking habits. I've made more of an effort to avoid dragging on the brakes softly. I try to hit them harder for a shorter amount of time. I also only use the rear brake for real low speed braking. It never squeaks on me. The fronts do not make any noise at speed and they usually don't make much noise if I do need to touch them at low speed. I am eager to try some aftermarket pads like you though.

I remember my front brakes squeaked about the last 5 feet before I came to a stop when my 06, 14 was new. It just stopped at some point. Now jump forward to my last weekend, and 25 thousand miles later. I replace my front pads with a set of stock pads. And the dog gone squeak is back!!!! About to drive me nuts!!! I didn't do a real good job cleaning the pins or the springs. I just wiped them off with a rag. I'll try cleaning all the parts right my next days off. Hopefully it will take care of it.

i have the same problem with those stock pads, they make too much noise, sometimes it even sounds like a bit of grinding is goin on there also...i still have the stock ones on mine and 5k with them, they don't really make too much noise, can't wait till i have to replace them for aftermarket ones

Yes, I get the grind noise once in a while too but it goes away with use. There were numerous posts on the old forum about the rust prone rotors. They will pit and get a little spot of rust now and then but it wares off.

I recently changed my pads and picked up a squeak.
When I tear into the bike this winter I'll do the automotive cures.
Used brake pad glue between pad and caliper piston and pin lube on my slightly corrode pins.
On cars the squeak is from dust between the piston and pad and the orange goop insulates the pad and disturbs the harmonics that make the noise.
Many new auto pads have a liner on the back of their pads for noise reduction.
My new EBC pads made a light grinding noise as they broke in, but what a improvement over my track day smoked old pads!!
