Wow!
I am surprized that non of the experienced people have not spoken on this. I owned an 06 for only 5 months. I bought it used, and put about 3-4k miles on it. As far as I am concerned, it was a true trouble free bike. My only complaint would be the slight rattle at startup. I hear that that is from a tensioner, and it seemed to be fine. I did notice that the transmission seems to be smoother if you changed the oil at about the 2K-2.5K mile mark.
Hope that helps.

How reliable are these engines? You can read about it HERE and HERE.

Oh here we go again. I have an 06 with 47,000 miles on it and it runs perfect! Just buy one that has had it's maintenance done and not a "stunt bike" and you'll be fine.

If you do things that will cause oil starvation, like not minding the oil level, or running the bike on its side, then the number three con rod tends to go first. That's the basis of the number three story that will be heard.

So, don't starve the engine of oil and it will be just fine. This does discourage buying a bike that has been abused, but that is nothing new.
