Another Newbie from New Hampshire

Greetings, I picked up my first ZX14 about 6 weeks ago. It's a 2008. It had 4000 miles on it, completely stock, with an extended warranty until December 2014. I love this bike! Wanted to send out some thanks to several members for a lot of helpful information. Special thanks to "Privateer". From his advice I installed Buell Ulysses pegs giving me an extra inch of leg room. At 52 it makes a big difference on my knees. Thanks to other postings I also installed Genmar on Helibar risers for 1 3/4 inch higher bars. (with stainless bolts from Fastenall) They are perfect now. I also installed a Sargent Solo seat with silver piping. Maybe others have already done this but I found that my EZ Pass transponder works perfect tie wrapped under the back seat cover. (which is an empty space now with my Sargent Solo Seat) It's out of sight and works great. To break up all of that Silver I added some black carbon fiber "foremans". I was going to go with smooth side covers but the rest of the bike is so smooth that to me the ridges in the side covers give it some texture. I also added some black pin striping and some black powder coated fairing vent screens. I put a fender eliminator on it with chrome LED license plate bolts. Also thanks to Privateer on advice for cooling. I installed a 2nd fan, a Schnitz 7" racing fan wired in with the primary fan, no relay and stock fuse. Works great. Never hits 4 bars even sitting in 95 degree stand still traffic. With 2 fans they run a much shorted time to bring down the temperature. Anyway I'm glad I found this site and again thanks for all of the helpful advice. I'll try to post some pictures, hopfeully I do this right.

Nice! I see screens painted black in the fairing openings (+10) and Targa heat shields on the back pipes where the heel of your boot would contact the pipe. (+10).

Good job on the mods, she will run well and be much fun for you!

Thanks Privateer. Which reminds me I got the Targa Heat Sheild add ons from one of your postings as well. My riding boots were leaving black marks on the chrome pipes from the heat. My next project will be some slip ons. I thought that I've read some postings that the stock mufflers have catalytic converters in them and that is one reason they run so hot? I read something you wrote about Brock slips ons. Do aftermarket slip ons run cooler that stock? Do they also help the motor run cooler or do they have no affect on motor temperature? Thanks.

First off welcome but don’t get slip-ons get a full exhaust and have the header ceramic coated to reduce maximum heat because the 2008 has 3 cats 1 in each can and 1 in the mid pipe! The only problem with a full exhaust is that you have to buy a Power commander!
