Tire Balancing w/ Beads?
03/30/09 10:35 AM

I just had a new pair of PP 2C put on my bike, it was at a shop I had never dealt with before RPM Cycles just South of Ottawa (excellent price and service I will be back)…

However they recommended that for a small additional cost they could add Dyna Beads to the tire for balancing and therefore I would not be required to use the traditional lead weights to balance the tire.

From what I hear the benefits are (from manufacturer’s web site):
1. Smooth ride, regardless of age of tire.
2. Dramatically longer tire life
3. No rebalancing
4. No spoke or rim weights
5. Eliminates tire cupping.
6. Easy to install

In the end I had them put them in and will give it a try but does anyone have any experience with this product or a similar one?

I hope they live up to their claims-I've used Pirelli Stradas since my first tire change-They never need a change in balance(weights).Smooth as glass-great side grip.As far as"eliminating tire cupping"-that's more rider oriented I would think.Hard front braking will cause cupping,as well as incorrect tire pressure(among other things)Road surface and speed will work on a tire-especially at high speed(direction changes, cornering, braking technique). And from my experience,MULTIPLE heat cycles(which are ALWAYS occurring)will cause tires to harden and change chemically as time goes on.So claims of "prolonged tire life, and performance gains are probably overstated.Just my 2 cents.Never had to rebalance my Pirelli's.Mileage is VERY GOOD-8,000 on the front,4,000+ rear. Most of my riding is around 80-100mph range.Out in the netherlands-it's higher.

I use them, but wouldn't say they do anything more or better than clip on or tape weights.
I initially bought them when I started changing my own tires and didn't want to spend the $$$ on a balancer.
Now that I've got them in 3 bikes, I could have almost bought a static balancer for the same $$$.
No more ugly weights stuck on my wheels though.... thats a plus!
