I have been agonizing about this busted bolt in the front Tri-R. To tell you the truth, I've been afraid to do anytrhing. Easy outs, left handed bits....what if the bit walks onto the aluminum??? What if I drill off center. I am really not well practiced with a drill in steel. I even remember as a lad, f-ing up my dad's drill press because I was too hesitant with the drill in steel.

Turns out the good old tappy-tap on the etching tool to turn the shank out is the simplest method and least likely to cause bigger problems. Got the beech to turn about 400 degrees this evening...will continue tomorrow. will show pics soon.

any votes of confidence?

I have the Tri-Rs on the bike. I noticed the bike rolls a little easier and the steering feels lighter as soon as I sat on the bike. I have not had the opportunity to turn on them as hard as I can. The tires are new and there are a lot of bolts and new parts I need to be confident are doing what they are supposed to do before I push the bike to my limit. At this point I feel the steering has improved about %15 if one can somehow put a number on that. I have not gone faster but I have noticed that where I would often go wide in certain corners I am now staying within the safe riding zone and hittting my apex where I want. The faster I corner, the greater the increase in cornering performance. It's a little scary to have this increase in potential when i was used to going fast with wheels that were less up to the task.

The CZ cush drive is much stiffer and I like the instant pull in the driveline I feel.

The front brake drag I was experiencing was caused by having the brake fluid way overfull. This happened as a result of prying open the brake pads to fit them to the new rotor with 0 wear. This pushed enough fluid back up the system to raise the level in the reservoir above the FULL line. the old rotors were thinner so the brake fluid was added to to compensate as the rotors and pads wore. With the new rotors, that was too much fluid. The overfull condition caused there to be no pressure at the lever. I think this was caused because the reservoir diaphram was all deformed and it was not maintaining pressure. I bled the master cylinder a little bit and restored the fluid level to FULL and the problem was solved.

The front brakes do have a little squauk in them at low speed. This seems to be going away as the pads bed in. I was advised to NOT use scintered pads on CZ rotors because CZ rotors already have the extra grab put into the rotors. CZ recommends organic pads or OEM. I think the squaky judder may be caused by the brakes grabbing TOO hard. THey work very well at high speed.

The wheels look great. I will post some better pics when I get a nice day.

Nice. It'll take some time to get used to but those high speed corners where you used to brake a little to turn won't need braking anymore. The improvement is everywhere from parking lot speed to high sweepers. Just hanging off a little will yield drastic results. Enjoy!

thanks guys. Grn, from what I'm told, the Tri Rs are not even made for the Gen 1 ZX-14 anymore. They were not getting enough orders. May have been why mine took so long to come in. ...so I kind of feel special to have this set. As far as BSTs, I still have to wait to find out how much I like these Carros but so far, it seems like a good investment for serious sport riding. I'll get some BSTs for the busa someday.

One BIG gripe on he CZs...the front wheel rotor carrier should have bigger holes for bigger rotor bolts and CZ really should get their torque specs in order. I can live with the small bolts but it was such a PITA to get that busted bolt out and the torque specs CZ provides is very misleading. Weird thing is I am sure I read back in 08 a thread about the exact problem I had with my front rotor bolts. Some other guy busted a bolt and stripped threads and needed to have them redrilled ....if I ever go that rout if these old threads wear out, I'l also drill a shoulder to use shoulder bolts. That is what CZ should be using, IMO. That is my only gripe. Otherwise I love the wheels

thanks, Romes...I was hoping to maybe be the only guy EVER to order ZX-14 Tri-Rs but in doing a search, I see at least one other 14 with the sam wheel in black. I didn't bother to look much farther but seemed like there were a few pics of other 14s with something that looked like a Tri-R but not closeup enough the be positive. This is a rare beast and getting rarer as it changes shape. Have some painting to do. Then NOS! guages, sensors, electronic doodads! gonna be COOL!

Still don't have the brakes perfect. The rear is working great. I see the Galfer has worn enough that I can feel a slight ridge already. I hope that is just an outer coating that wares away for bed in or this thing will be toast in a year. Works very good though. Better than stock.

The fronts I mentioned were making a binding noise...a squawk at low speed. Seems to have improved somewhat. I was playing with a Mustang GT on the expressway this evening. I got on the brake pretty hard. YOu would call it an emergency brake. The fronts grabbed superbly but I heard that squawky groan noise at about 50 mph and it was loud. Did not like. I feel no pulsation in the brake and the handling is terrific. More I ride, the more I see that these wheels make the bike handle much better than OEM wheels. No sacrifice in stability that I can tell at high or low speed.

CZ recommends organic pads ONLY or OEM. No scintered pads, CZ puts the high bite material in the rotors. I think I better order some organic pads for the front.

Mabe I missed it, what was the total amount of weight savings for the front and the rear?

I have yet to weigh the OEM wheels because They still have usable tires on them. See p 2 for details on the weight of my Tri-Rs.

Are these wheels someone can consider a daily driver? If you got some with a new bike, do they last the life of the bike and hold up to the riggers of the street? Those BST's arent really daily driver wheels IMO. Love the blue.

That's a Saddlemen TechStyle seat. I got it from Dennis Kirk. Think it was about $400. I like it very much. It is a bit heavier than stock but it's a nice seat for the street and it does look awfully cool if I do say so myself.

I try to be careful with them. I wouldn't ride down a rough road riddled with potholes. They are apparently supposed to be able to take rough treatment. I'v done plenty of wheelies with them. No problems. I hav eno idea how durable they are for everyday use. I've never heard of a wheel failing on the street. I have heard of spokes ripping from the rim on the track. These are popular for track use so I expect they should hold up to street riding just fine.

Actually, CZ quit making these for the ZX-14. They do make other forged alum wheels for the 14.

I love the blue too. They have a superb anodizing process.
