Are front break rotors covered under GTPP?
07/07/09 2:53 PM

Just a quick question, I have just over 7000 miles on my ZX and my front rotors are warped, will they be covered under the GTPP?

If not, I'd change policies. I am guessing they would. I have about 7K on mine. What is with the discs and poor habits at that lever? I cannot figure that out?

I hear you! I have read your other post and know how you feel. However, I am new to my ZX14, I bought it UESD this last weekend and it came that way. Now, the original owner did have GTPP, and it is transferable to me so I just wanted to get a feel of what the STEALERSHIP might say to me if I take it in to have the rotors replaced under warranty and I have only had the new/used ZX14 for a few days. I hope it works out well for me!!! :)

Look at the policy. I think it runs a lot of areas. Usually the aftermarket insurance covered what I needed to clear the bike for "SAFETY!"

Usually ext warranty will cover a rotor if its warped, as long as there is no damage to the rotor, IE hit by something that caused it to bend. At least the ext warranty i work with every day does.

I thaught my rotors were warped but I installed aftermarket pads and just about all the shimmy is gone now when I apply the brakes.Galfer pads are the ones I installed.

I may try that. I stoped by the local stealership and explained my problem. They asked me to drop off the bike and they would take a look at it in a few days. I asked if I could just have someone look at it now and take a quick test drive they said sure drop off the keys and they will call me in about a week to let me know. THIS IS WHY I HAVE LEARNED HOW TO DO ALMOST ANYTHING MYSELF! You should not have to leave your baby for a week just to take a look at it. I have a V-star 1100, GSXR 600, and now ZX14. The pads look good for a bike with almost 8000 miles but I think I will replace them just to check. Then if it does not fix it I will take it in. That way they will not charge me to replace the pads. You know if they replace the rotors they will tell you that you need to replace the brakes and they charge crazy amounts to do breaks.

Thank you guys for your help!

If there is anyone else in the RGV (McAllen TX) area hit me up, lets ride!!!

Mine were replaced under warranty at 12,000 miles / 10 months. Kawasaki UK's claims process was very efficient - claim made, approved, parts shipped and fitted all within 10 days. Local dealer really helped.

Most likely that "warped" rotor is really the fault of crappy OEM brake pads.

Okay, I just got back from a test ride. This is what I have so far... After taking the breaks apart, cleaning everything real good with break cleaner, and sanding down the pads (I chose to sand them because these pads look almost new(remember I bought this bike used with 7400 miles on it)so I don't believe these to be stock) I no longer feel the sensation of a warped rotor. However, I still get about a half an inch travel from left to right, a wobble, on the handlebars between 50 and 55 MPH. I still feel it at other speeds but strongest (again about half an inch from left to right) at 55 MPH.

My next thought is an unbalanced tire... (The tire is new and was balanced and put on at the dealership where I bought it)

I am on my third bike and have never felt this before.

Suggestions anyone???

"The tire is new and was balanced and put on at the dealership"

This is exactly why I only do all my service. My first dealer service almost killed me with a tankslapper after they failed to balance my tires even though the charged for it. Their excuse was, "we don't have any weights."

Okay, lets close this tread! After a closer look, and not taking it to a dealership, I found the cause. I must say I didn't even look at this at first but.... It is the tire that is causing the wobble. It is new so I thought for sure it was not going to be what was causing the problem. So far I have put about 400 miles... The dealership was trying to make me feel good about loosing money on me by giving me a new front tire but I think they gave me one they could not sell... :( Oh well... At least I know what it is now and I'm confident about my 14 again!

FYI: The tire is a Full Bore M-1 Street Sport. The cause of the wobble is the tire is not true round and with it being new I think it came that way. Nothing on my ZX caused it.

Gives me an excuse to upgrade!!! Oh, yeah!!!
