Last race at OBX Speedway?
08/23/12 7:51 PM

Looks like the race over Labor Day weekend might be the last at OBX Speedway unless things take a major turn for the better. Sam and Dave for sure will be out there with the Monster 14 and the Turbo Busa. The weather is still too hot to run any new bests with the bikes but being as this could very well be the last race ever run there and it's one of the local tracks to us, we've got to show up. If anyone reads this and is within a few hours drive, please come out and support this track. Who knows? A great showing may change the equation and they decide to keep running races. I sure hope so. Take care everyone and have a good one.

2009 Monster Edition ZX14, 70" wheelbase, 16-46 gearing, air shifter, Shinko Drag Radial. 2005 Turbo Hayabusa, 74" wheelbase, 16-43 gearing, foot shifted, Shinko Drag Radial. 2001 GSXR 1000, long, low and not stock.

It is a mystery to me why fellow riders don't support these events. Yesterday I went to Atco Raceway in New Jersey, and I had the chance to meet a fellow forum member. I lost count how many ZX-14's register to race, so I was happy about that. But the other side of the coin is that on my way home I noticed tons of SPORT bikes simply parked near a Cafe in Philly shooting the breeze looking cool. Why would anyone purchase a fast sport bike to cruise in his neighboorhood, instead of supporting the local racetrack? People can enjoy watching bikes similar to theirs race down the track in a safe environment or they can register and race themselves, instead of getting into an accident on the street. I was a little dissapointed to see only two or three ZX-14r's racing.

There was a decent showing of cars but only about a dozen bikes. I'm not sure if it was enough of a showing to keep things going but there is one more race scheduled in October. Maybe they'll have that race and if the weather is nice, lots of people will show up. The weather was still too hot for me but i went out there anyhow. Bikes ran badly because of the heat and a little fuel problem with the NA14. But, we were there in support of the racetrack and that's really all that mattered.

I don't think many people realize how important is to support their sport.
