Goulburn to Oberon
09/01/15 4:55 AM

I organised a bike riding group with work mates. We go out regularly on country roads around Sydney.

Today's ride involved a Hyabusa, a Honda Blackbird, a FJR1300, a Honda CBR600RR and of course, my ZX14R. We started in Penrith, going down Mulgoa Road towards Wallacia and Silverdale. Lots of fast and twisting roads. Then through Thirlmere and the other small southern highland towns. Our first goal was Goulburn for petrol and a pit stop. The quick way to Goulburn is the freeway, but close to 200kms of free way is boring.

After Goulburn we reached our main purpose for the day, the road between Goulburn and Oberon, sing at Taralga for lunch. My friends had ridden this road before but this was my first time. This is a magnificent road, smooth, fast turns and long straights. The speeds capable are dependant upon your nerve. Usually, it's a fairly low law enforcement road, despite the fact it starts near the New South Wales Police Academy! But today, after zipping past a couple of 4WD police cars, thanking our good fortune not to get their attention, another two went past a short time later. Not highway patrol thankfully.

We stopped in Taralga for lunch at a quiet (the whole town is quiet) pub. Stupidly, I thought the day would be warmer, so neglected any thermal or winter gear. Thankfully, the pub had a raging fire going.

Following lunch, we made our way to Oberon. This part of the road was even better than the first part, more twisties but still plenty of fast straights too.

The road out of Oberon was one I have driven before but not ridden. I hadn't really considered it part of the days ride looking forward to it, but was reminded about what a good road it is. Fast, twisty, thoughoroly enjoyable.

The trip back along the Great Western Highway into Sydney was a pretty standard fare.

All in all, nearly 500kms of fun!

Yep, done that run many times.
Glad you enjoyed it.

If you enjoy fast sweepers on a perfect road surface (that has only just been layed in the past couple of years), get out to the Nerriga Rd (Via Macquarie Pass and Kangaroo Valley from Sydney). It starts in Nowra and finishes at Braidwood. Then take the Kings Hwy down the mountain through the twisties and you've got a great way to get to Batemans Bay.
Stay the night at Zorbas Hotel on the water, get a massive seafood dinner at one of the cracking restaurants there, wash it all down with a few cold ones at the pub 100 meters from your hotel, and all is right with the world...
The next day, do it all again in reverse.

Aussie, you and your boys head there and Im in...

I've done the Nowra to Braidwood road but not the others. Agree, fantastic fast flowing roads, but I did it on my Honda 500 so would be good to revisit it on the ZX. One of the guys, the Hyabusa boy, is moving soon to Nowra, so might plan your suggestion and let you know.

UPDATE

At work at the moment and just hit a couple of guys up. Might incorporate it into our now annual Snowies trip Feb/Mar next year.
