Exhaust install
05/14/09 7:56 AM

In the past i have always put new exhaust gaskets on when replacing a full system, but when I think about it I did not do this on the 14. I do not remember seeing stock gaskets when I took the exhaust off and do not remember anything about replacing them in the TiForce instructions? Am I missing something? Should I go order some from the dealer and put them on or is it necessary, I put the Tiforce on at 300 miles. Thanks for any info.

yes you need to replace the gaskets, the old gaskets will be stuck in the head you need to pry them out and use grease to hold the new ones in while you are placing the head pipe in place

I installed the yosh trc full system and the instructions said to remove the stock gaskets because they would not be used with the new system. I was unsure about this myself so I called yosh directly and was told that the fit was close tolerance and they weren't required and it seems to be working

monster, i just went through this ordeal last week with my bike. just make sure you don't have any exhaust leaks around the headers. if you don't then you should be ok, but if your headers are leaking exhaust then you need to pull the old gaskets and replace them. my dealer wanted $17 a piece for those dang gaskets so i ordered mine from schintzracing.com and they were at my door in 3 days! awesome company!

Thanks for the info guys, just for piece of mind I went ahead and ordered some from schintzracing.com(thanks reevesmreeves)
Figured to make it worth taking the bike back apart I went ahead and ordered the muzzy's fan also. Hope this helps the heat issue!

the forecasters give a 30% chance everyday. i say that's a 70% chance it's not going to rain i checked the radar at 6:20 this morning and there were green spots everywhere. when i got on the road everything was dry

oh, i checked my mileage after the full exhaust and muzzy map install, and i got 34 mpg calculated and 36 mpg on the gauge. not too shabby considering my 636 only gets 37-39 mpg!

They are standard exhaust parts. Meaning, most likely they fit a lot of other bikes. So universally, you could have bought a set at the local dealer.

Grease might melt, stain the exhaust. They more or less can be pushed in and tagged with tiny dab of silicone. I'd go dry like they stayed in for me without anything.

I have to touch my eyes on a few bikes and chase swap parts at the same time. If you do not see replies, I am on the road and out the door. Hold the fort down.

do not remember anything about replacing them in the TiForce instructions?

Kind of sad isn't. When I received my Muzzy slip-ons they made no mention of needing new donuts or the fact that they were not supplied with their pipes. This little f.ck up cost me FIVE more days of waiting. I do not remember Akrapovic having anything in there instructions either. The 2nd time I was ready.
