First, take key out of ignition.....

JK

You should hear a pop when you turn the key and the locking mechanism releases. If the bike is new, the seat lock has not broken in yet. I used to have a dickens of a time getting my seat back on and after switching to the after market seat it is once again tighter than hell.

I have two suggestions:
#1 put your finger tips under the edge of the back of the seat on both sides or even the seat cowl. Pull up. The seat lock may have released and it is just hanging by the notches in the pins. That is one thiong that tight seat locks do.

#2 Try thrusting down right at the back of the riders portion of the seat as you turn and hold open the seat lock key. The little extra shot upward of the lock pins might be enough to get them to let go. You might also ask a partner to pull up on the seat immediately after you push down....you can't do both by yourself if you are also holding the key open.

Good luck. I'm betting this is just a nice fresh seat lock. Never heard of anyone having REAL trouble with this part but sure is a PITA to figure out.

When you reinstall the seat, push the front forward after you get the two hooks welded to the tank in the underseat holes (careful to not push the bike over the side stand). keep forward pressure wile pressing down on th eback of the riders seat right above the pins. PINS MUST LINE UP WITH HOLES! I feel with my fingers for the seat being centered on the tail frame rails right under the seat edge.

Good luck. You should get it.

I would NOT suggest squirting anything like WD-40 or graphite into the lock. The problem is with the mechanism under the seat. The key just turns a pivot that pulls on a long cable to the seat lock. You could squirt wD-40n all day and it wouldn't do a thing to help get the seat up.

COOL MAN!

Glad you got 'er free. It should wear in after you take it off and on about 7-8 times.

Good luck cajoling that seat back on. All yoiu can do is lift the back up high and push the hooks in hard up front then lower it and push down over the pins. Make sure you have it hooked on both sides in front. give a little tug under the edge to check it.
