so, i have my fourth tire on the bike. 8500 on the odo since july and counting.

my first rear, the stocker 014 i got 1700 out of and replaced it with an 021 which i got nearly 6000 on it before replacing it with a take off for the ride to LA at the first of the year. i think i got about 1200 miles out of that and have since replaced it with a new 021.

the front 014 i got about 2400 out of and replaced it with an 021 which i am replacing next weekend. due to the price, i am going to pick up an 016 for my next front, local shop is blowing them out. in about 4000 miles i am going to replace the bridgestones with either pilot roads or i MAY try the angels by (pirreli?)

thanks slidderhd, i was going for the 08 SE but couldn't get the financing on an 08... (10% vs 6% on the 09) but bottom line is when i finally saw this color, i was, and am still, in love with this bike. FWIW you can find full sets of plastic on ebay for around $600 plus shipping.

I love the 016's they are sticky as hell, they just don't last on these heavy bikes. I'm running a set of Diablo Rosso's now, and have 1300 miles on them and they look new. I haven't been hitting the twisties hard though cause of the cold weather.

I just put a set of Dunlop Road Smart tires on. Cycle GEar has them on sale. $229.00 for the set. I couldn't pass them up for that price.

PIRELLI ANGEL ST's I swear by them. I ride extremely hard. lots of acceleration and carving up the curves. Tires are excellent in the turns, no give whatsoever. They hug the turn and respond EXCELLENT. They are also EXCELLENT if you get caught in the RAIN. They have lasted for the past two seasons and I still think I can get about a month or so on the meat that I have left.

Its fun to go back every once in a while... it was february last year i last posted here. now, i have 24,100 miles on the bike, and have gone thru several 023's. i really like these tires, tho only getting about 4000 miles out of a rear, nearly 10k out of the fronts.

i AM going to try the angels... but i have a little back stock to work thru, as a buddy of mine off loaded some stock when a local store shut down. i have one more 023, and may have some pilots to run thru, since they are available for silly cheap.

i have understood that the road smarts can get really high milage, but are not much fun in the technical stuff. any comments there?

I don't have enough miles to give a concise review, but I bought the Michelin Pilot Road 3's for my Triumph Speed Triple and have over a thousand miles and you literally would think I just put them on. Obviously, the Triple is a lighter bike, but so far, I've been quite impressed with the PR3's. The sides are 2CT compound and the middle is the harder Pilot Road compound. The tread is completely different than any other tire and, in fact, it makes them look like they were mounted backwards. I feel as sure-footed as when I had my Dunlops that were full-on race tires. When I had my '14, I had PR2's and put over 3k miles on them. They looked like they could go another 3k quite easily. I'm still a fan of the Michelins.

I tend to think a lot has to do with how much the rider weighs, along with how much the bike weighs. This as well as riding style and/or what your average ride route looks like, i.e. mostly corners or mostly straights. But I'm with you, not sure why folks can't seem to get as many miles. Do you think it has anything to do with Michelin manufacturing them and distributing from different locations? I read an interesting forum post on sport-touring.net of a guy that bought the PR2's and they were manufactured from somewhere over in Singapore I think it was. He had serious issues out of it and, meanwhile, the ones produced in Spain had none. Dunno.

i know that i have been hard on tires from the get go... i generally get fewer miles out of any tire as my buddies have, on every bike and car... thats not to brag, it costs me money damn it! LOL but i tend to stay in lower gears for longer and tend to use the revs more then i need to. this is also not to say i ride, drive like a maniac. i have had very few accidents in my driving and riding career. my ultimate plan is to get a plated track bike, so i can reserve the 14 for more touring duty... thats what it seams to do best for me.

My fz1 was getting around 6-8k on pilot roads. i loved those tires on that bike. i understand they generally have a rounder shape then the bridgestones i use now. the one time i used the 2CT road, i got around 2500 miles before it wore a trip down the middle. it was suggested i may have had too much air in the tire. i now have a 2ct on that bike... but its become the town loaner, and i don't ride it enough anymore to know what to expect from it.

rider weight and bike weight make a HUGE difference too... the 600# bike with a 250 pound rider and passengers that weigh between 120 and 150, the bike handles best, but wears the most. the only real reason i want to get CF pipes for the thing is to offset the weight of the GIVI bags i intend to purchase. i am interested to see, once i have the changes done, how a new spring rate will do on the back. i wonder if that too, will effect how quickly the tire wears, particularly on the sides.

Personally, I am a Pirelli man. I used to rock with the Diablo supersport but they discontinued those so I decided to try the Pirelli Angel St's. I have been shock and amazed. I got them for an exceptional deal from Compacc.com (Competition Accessories Online store) both tires for $238. What a great deal I just had to see how they would handle under my type of riding.
So after riding two seasons traveling from NY to Philly to virginia at over 150mph every weekend and hard riding and cornering for play the tires are still ful of tread. While cornering hard, they do not give or feel like they will slip. Hugs super tight. And did I mention that they are the TRUTH in the rain. I dont make a point to ride in the rain but I was caught in a storm coming back from Philly and they handled exceptionally well again.

For tires that will last and work well I would definitely recommend these tires "PIRELLI ANGEL ST"
