lowering links in

There is definitely a carefully stepped way to get this job done: my first mistake was to put too high of a spacer between the jack and the bottom of the rear shock mount. Once I realized that I couldn't get the jack out with the lower links in, I restarted the whole thing and with a 1 1/2" high spacer this time, finally got them in. Sizes are 10 mm for the belly pan bracket, links are 14 mm on the bolt side and 19 mm on the nut side. I happen to have a 1 foot long threaded rod lying around that was the same diameter so I used that to tap the bolt through. I had to shave about an 1/8" off one corner of the under belly mretal bracket for the right side link to travel through but that was all of the fab'ing. Note that I did not have to pull the exhaust pipes.

Regarding the results: I set them to the lowest setting which is too low. It feels like a low-ride bobber bike, but man, does it corner like it's psychic! So, tonight I'll put it on the second higher setting and see if that feels better. If not I'll put them up on ebay and go for the fully adjustable ones.

Now I have to find an adjustable kickstand bracket, the stock one is now WAY to high for comfort when stepping away from my lovely monster. And I say that with love.

If you decide to take on this task, some advice: I used a rear stand so I recommend that as well as either strapping down from both clips to a secure point or having a friend stand by to make sure your bike stays steady while you are "underneath" working. Helps to loosen up the nuts before putting the jack underneath as well.
