Is it a requirement to use a gasket sealer (Permatex Ultra Copper) on slip ons?

I didn't with the Yosh and I regularly take off the left slip when I clean the chain good

Perfectly Set up '06 dead and gone

Thanks cruderudy, I was hoping you didn't have to. They are a tight fit and would make a big mess.
