Gearing question
08/23/20 8:53 PM

Hey y’all, I was wondering what gears/sprockets I should go with. I have a 2013 zx14r, it’s strapped, roaring toys lowering links on the lowest hole, 8” stretch, full muzzy m10 exhaust with pc5, I’ve been running on a street tire and going mid 10’s@138mph, although this Friday I’ll be going out on a hook up. I’m 6-3” 265 pounds suited, what would y’all suggest for gearing?

I've heard stock is best for drag racing. If you go shorter, you will probably need to shift into 6th.

I've used 17/47 on a 2007 and a 2012 and would be near the top of 5th 9.07@153 on the 07, 8.78@160 on my 2012 though I'm 6'@185 suited. I was at 17/43 now 18/45 on my turbo bike. With your size you may even want to go 48-49 rear. Good luck and have fun!!!

On my last 2012 ZX14R which was raced quite a bit we used 17/39 with T riding (140 pounds suited). This was stock wheelbase, lowered, strapped, stock rear tire, CO2 shifter, 220+ HP. Low 8.80's at 160. We tried 17/42, 17/40, 17/39.
Times improved every time we went with a smaller rear sprocket. Just my experience but you ain't going faster with the front wheel in the air. This is very individual but T is a very experienced skilled drag racer on stock wheelbase bikes and this gearing worked for us.
