Glad you got it. Keep an eye on those lights. There was a certain type of non OEM headlight bulb that was burning out or burning fuses. IDK much about what it was but I remember the problem being discussed because i was going to change my bulbs. Still gotta do that. Anyway, on the Gen1 you could probably change the bulb just removing the top inner fairing. Don't know about the gen2.

Hey Guys. I'm new to the ZX community. My 2008 ZX14 just cut off on the way home. No power to anything while the key is on. tried to jump and nothing happened. The gauges are stuck at 3000 rpm and 15 MPH. I do smell burnt plastic from under the seat. Any ideas on where to start? Please help!!!

The battery is under the seat. I'd take that out immediately as a precaution. Maybe hook it back up to test after verifying the battery itself isn't damaged but don't leave it in, not even with the ground disconnected. Take that sucker out in case it's fixing to explode or you have a constant draw or something else that could destroy the bike and your garage.

Ummm..the battery is not under the seat. Its in the frame like all other ZX14s. Brain fart ?
Yep, I believe so! I was thinking busa. I think it's still a wise precaution to take the battery out of the bike until the problem is diagnosed.
Check the rectifier. It's been a long time since I heard anything about those but rectifiers cooking themselves has been an issue and that is not a new bike. My 08 sometimes didn't turn over when I hit the button the first time. It would make a squealing noise (relays were suggested as a possible culprit) and sometimes it made a loud buzz which might have been an arcing noise. I think the problem was worse on a hot start than it was on a cold start. I never got to the bottom of that issue. The bike started and ran fine after the starter turned over.
There are some great aftermarket MOSFET rectifiers available. Check with Powerhouse Motorcycles in New York, they sell them.
Here's a thread I found about a fried rectifier.
