On the underside of the left tail fairing is the key release for the seat.

Sometimes the seat sticks a bit. It's kind of hard to get a grip with the cowl on. Once you do have the seat off, lube the latch mechanism. Sometimes jiggling the seat back and forth helps it come off too. Like the others said, the cowl is just held on with 4 screws.

guys, you forgot to mention to him that the manuals are stickied for download in the General section.

he's going to need them.

EDIT: forgot, he can also go to kawasaki.com and from the pre-2012 ZX14 page (a little harder to find now) when you click Accessories on the page it displays, is download of owners manual and ability to buy hardcopy service manual.

Which reminds me, I'm not giving my 2008 ZX14 factory service manual to Twigg when I trade it in, who wants it? Pay for shipping and give me $20 extra on paypal and you got it.

The seat is a beach to get back on until you get the knack of it. After getting the two hooks placed on the fuel tank, I push forward on the seat firmly while pressing the 2 pins down into the lock. I feel the frame tubing underneath the edges of the seat with the back of my finger tips. That works great for centering the pins in the lock. Last step is pull up under each front corner to make sure they both stayed hooked on the fuel tank.

its a PITA but you get it after 15--20 times.
