Ouch! 1st 14 Ticket
07/12/11 9:49 AM

I've had my bike since 2009 and done things with her that would have easily land me in jail (I know you all relate to this). Usually I have my sixth sense in play looking for places where Troopers could nail me and it has worked for 3 yrs. You guys know that feeling you get to just slow down because you've been pushin extremes for awhile and right when you do a cop appears but your good because you dropped the speed enough. Well this worked all up until this past Sunday.....

Towards the end of a drama free ride in the NH mountains, I am on the interstate heading home when a big bore Harley rides onto the hwy, blasting his pipes to catch me. Now I already had a full day of riding twisties and full throttle romps, so I'm really in the chill mode at this point cruising around the posted speed limited of 65 MPH. However this Harley dude with a MC patch vest - no shirt - no helmut tempts me because I know he is trying to check me with his Harley. So I allow him to get so close that his pipes are now blastin thru my helmut. I lazily dropped down to 3rd gear and simply blasted him away to triple speeds, then slow down, then blast away and all the time he pushing to catch up. I do this for a few then decide to let him pass because my sixth sense kicks in but it's too late. As he passes me in the left lane, we are both still moving and just where the hwy bends into a turn a Statie is sitting there in the divide. The Harley dude taps his head to signal but too late to slowdown.

At first I didn't think the Statie was going to pursue so I decide to chill (not thinking I was going that fast) while the Harley begins to weave thru traffic not really at high speed but still ahead of me. About two minutes later the Statie catches up and flashes his lights on me. I pull over and he comes out saying do I know how fast I was doing and I honestly reply no...he says 96mph. I say what about the other rider who you clocked first; he says 103 mph and don't worry he being stopped ahead (little did the Statie know the Harley dude slipped in the rest area). Anyways, after saying the usual "I didn't know I was going that fast.. this bike is asleep at that speed" he runs my bike plate & license. After a few minutes, he comes outs and states because I've been cool & honest about everything (didn't run, no smartass remarks), he locked me in at 90mph which doesn't fall under "reckless driving", which would mean court appearance & much bigger fine plus possible jail. So my 1st ZX14 speeding ticket clocks in at $361.00 which is alot but considering 3yrs with pure no drama fun, there's a time you have to pay to play!

Bean...I was pissed at first at the $361 but once home I had to reflect; is 96mph really fast?...I took the cage out the next day and ran up to 96mph, yup its pretty fast in a car but our bikes just snores at this speed. I know the Harley dude has a story to tell: 1st me playing cat & mouse with him (if he tells the truth), then the Trooper spotting, then me getting pulled over while he crept off into the rest area hiding out from the trap set for him a few miles up. Would love to know if they caught him....

I believe the moral of the story is to not to pick on retards. I'm afraid karma's a bitch buddy and in this case immediate.lol I'm sure the cop was bullshitting you about the hardly getting pulled just so he wouldn't have to go into an arguement with you about why you got pulled over. This is your punishment for, 1. letting a hardly get ahead of you, 2. letting a hardly get a response from you. Unfortunately, I am just as guilty for being arrogant and having a bit of sport with the slower bikes, but your story reaffirms the angel on my shoulder telling me to grow up when I'm contemplating it. thanks. As far as the fine, if they didn't make it hurt, people like us wouldn't ever care about speed limits so take it with a grain of salt. Comes with the territory. I just get irritated when they act like we are felons because we have the ability to move faster than them. Don't lecture me Mr. Man, I know what I'm doing and refuse to act remorseful (unless I'm in the mood to BS them).

Speed is my drug. Drugs feel good. Things that make you feel good are usually considered against the law. Just because it's a law doesn't mean it's right. Laws suck!

Edge so true...funny about not letting the Harley get in front. For about 5 miles before the Trooper, I ran the speed up but Harley dude must have stayed around 100mph because when I would roll off after a 140 blast there he was again. I let him pass just because I needed to chillout after already riding for 8 hrs. And trust me the stupid thought of out running the Trooper and Harley did flash my mind...Lesson learned though; let the Harley get the ticket next time - LOL.

EDGE for president, well said man.

Shogun don't feel bad! I was out around midnight and came up to a kid and his gf on a 1 liter bike I stayed about 5 cages behind him cause you know how those kids get trying to impress you by pulling wheelies and wanting to race, plus he had his gf on so I thought I better behave. We came up to this highway and the guy just went WOT on me, I went 3/4 just so I'm not too far behind him and we both came to a stop at this light, out of nowhere this guy on a HARLEY stops behind me and rev his bike. The young kid ahead of me look at the harley guy and shut his lid now I know it's going down. I'm a mature guy but if a dude riding 2 up and a Harley guy wanna race I can't just stand there. So green it is... I know my launch sucks but I'm not worried to keep up with the Harley and the liter carrying 300 lbs +. I just need a couple of sec at wot. I let the Harley pass me give him a full sec and go wot fly by him and as soon as I come up to the liter shut the throttle. I look behind me to check on the Harley but all I can see is red and blue lights I give it a little gas in case LE is hesitating between pulling me and the harley guy and 3 secs later I see the harley guy getting on the side of the road. Like all great predators LE will always choose the weakest prey in this case the slower Harley and I agree with edge most likely the harley guy you were racing with didn't get pull over that s just something that they all say. We were in a 60 and when I saw LE I was doing 71 I'm not calibrated so I could have been at 65, the harley got caught cause it was trying to catch us up and had to maintain high speed. We've got sport bikes they not only accelerate fast they break well to.. use that. Remember this is not MOTO GP there is no finish line, so I don't care about pole position. All you have to do is flex a little, get up to their blind spot and let them go. Don't think your reputation is at stake because whether your win or not most of those guys gna lie to their buddies that they smoked a 14. This is just the price to pay when you have a sleek, aggressive looking machine with reputation to back it all up. Most often than not though I gotta say Mona Lisa (my 14) saved me a bunch of tickets: most of the liter bike that catch up to me just chill when they see I'm on a 14 if I had a 1 liter I would have been taunted by every guy on two wheels only idiots try to race me given that there is no twisties here. Then again some don't wanna race you they just wanna see a 14 go wot. Yes indeed it is a beautiful sight lol
