2022 14R
08/11/21 6:58 AM

So after much hand wringing, I've decided to finally retire my 2012 14R, with 82K miles, and get a new one. At 74, it will be my last bike. The dealer doesn't know when it will come in but says it "could" be next month. Anyone have any info on when they will hit the dealers?

I'll be going with a Brock's titanium CT single pipe and a flash. Since the 2022 has remained unchanged the last few years, what have you guys been seeing on the dyno for the late model bikes with a pipe and flash?

September is often the month for new models to star trickling into dealerships, so what your dealer said sounds right...they'll probably come in, in probably a month or two.

Congrats zx9rmal.
Always something very exciting about a brand new bike.
Especially a new 14R!
I am very jealous.

Nice work at 74, so spoil yourself and get the gold plated one!

Enjoy, ride fast, and stay safe...

Personally, I'd hedge my bet on the possibility that an improved ZX-14 will come out in 2023...that is if they keep making ZX-14s into 2023. I think they will in the US if the 2022s are available now.

Of course, if the Gen3 busa doesn't prove to be a game changer with mods, it won't be necessary to improve the 14. Right now, looks about even but they have yet to crack the Gen3 busa ECU. It does look possible that fueling might be optimized on the Gen3 busa through the use of a current GSXR 1000 Bazzaz or PC5. However, it seemed the fueling was already quite good for a race exhaust just using the stock O2 sensors. I think the Gen2 ZX-14 is going to remain the king of horsepower but I can wait until the question is officially answered. Then I'd say buy one (or both) because the war is definitely over at this point in time. No more big bores will be coming out of the factory after the Gen3 busa and the whatever Kaw decides to end it with.

IF there's a 2023, and IF it's improved, is of no consequence to me. Although I would like a quickshifter and cruise control, those things and any other electronic improvements just aren't that important to me. Especially if I have to wait another year.

I did get a decent ride on a friend's new Busa. It's a VERY nice bike. Looks great. The bars are definitely closer, which is a good thing compared to the Gen 2, and the handling was good. It felt like it turns in a bit quicker then the 14R. The motor was a bit of a disappointment. However, the bike had only 550 miles on it, AND the guy had it in power mode 2, which I didn't realize or I would have had him change it back to P1. P2 dulls throttle response but still gives full power, according to what I have read. When I really got into the throttle, it had good power, but it's not a 14R. Again, it's a VERY nice bike with a lot of features and has more tech than the 14R, e.g., quickshifter and cruise control. Interestingly, my friend, who also has a '21 14R, says he like the looks of the Busa better (so do I), but likes the14R more. I prefer the 14R, especially for the price differential.

74 isn't old, I am 78 and still on a 2012 ZX14R. It will surprise me if Kawasaki ups the ante in 2023 except for possibly more electronics. I expect these bikes are the last of the big bore superbikes. The problem is ever tightening emission and sound regulations. I won't be but you younger guys will probably be on electric bikes some day.
