This was my dad he passed away in 1985 @ 50 years old G'day to everyone out there ! had posted under bg an thought better tell yer about myself here..started riding in 78 I was 16 I rode a lot of dirt bikes, I have always bin a risk taker mad lad anyway, Greg Pretty was a well known racer here in OZ He won many races here and some overseas in the 70's - 80's he said to his brother Russell I like your mates Style but he wont live long ! I was 16 & going past his house on a XL 125 that day ,Sadly a rider on a ZX12 over shot a bend & killed himself & Greg Pretty this year head on . . I road lots of dirt bikes hill/climbing, paddock bashing etc in 1985 I bought a CBX750F I offered a ride to my dad he said im not getting on that bloody big monster !!! HE used to go on about his Tiger500 his Matchless and other bikes of his time anyhow he died re-memberance day 1985,2 weeks on I was pretty reckless the day I tried to see how fast I could get around this "S" bend,there were 3 young kids waiting for me with their hands full of rocks which they threw out in front of me,I went to hospital a week later as infection was heading from my left knee towards my groin, had a 2 " graft on it and met my future wife Nadene in hospital, she had Aaron 4yrs & Micheal 6mnths old, she at that time was having a lympth node opp. (now works there as a REGISTERED NURSE)OH IM a boilermaker/welder too my 4 sons are Shaun 19,John22, Micheal25 and Aaron 29 he is the only other bike rider he has a 09GSX600R,These are the other bikes I've had

It's funny how riding can be a family legacy of sorts, isn't it Bean? Be glad your dad got the chance to learn you the skill. My dad rode and raced but died when I was less than a year old on his bike. I never knew him but I ended up riding anyway despite my mom demonizing it. It's the only way I can feel close to my dad that I never knew. That is why I ride and many people never know it. Sounds like you had a great exciting upbringing. Sorry to hear about your dad. 50 is too young.

Thanks for that edgecrusher sorry to read ya didn't get to know your dad mate I did wish he got to see me settle down with my wife and know my four sons to! as he was proud of my Trade ability but didn't mention to me but told my mum he was disappointed with me going to the pub and partying to much, funny I met Nadene in Hospital two weeks after he passed away. but thats life. We didn't talk much and it was that filled me up with some of the knowledge from the few photos I have left about some of his days rides.

Whish I had photos of old bikes.I had a 83 GPz1100 red of course.81,82,83 GS1100E's.Not a Katana but the same motor but 1100.

Hey Bean. Your story about your dad reminded me of mine. He raced dirt bikes as a kid with my uncle, and later rode a Harley when he met my mom. He was an alcoholic and lost a leg when he rode drunk and crashed his bike. My parents divorced and I never saw him after I reached about 8 years old. My mom always steered me away from bikes because of what happened to my dad, she blamed the Harley, I blamed the alcohol. Whatever, it didn't work. The first time I got a chance to try a friend's bike I jumped on and with no training or explanations just rode it away. Now, my mom has accepted the bikes, she even buys my copy of Motorcourse each year. My son has ridden since he was 4 and has his own CBR600F2. This summer we're doing our first road trip and his first track day.
So, happy birthday and ride well!

sorry for the late reply Mad thats sad to here what happened with your Dad and your Mum,yes it,s funny how our parents influence us in someways heay! it's nice to read you & your son will ride together thats one thing I only did with my dad once when we both bought 2 of CBR250 Supperhawks bikes,tell ya a funny story he bet a workmate for ONE Dollar he could beat a DT250 on his Superhawk CBR 250 down a 3km long (firetrack)dirt road well he got infront of him right near the end of a "T" section Road he flew straight over the road just between to cars going eachway!through a picket fence then straight into a big TREE ! the ambos broke 3 of his ribs trying to get his discollated arm back in his socket! the funny thing was nigel thought he was dead when he stopped and pulled the recked bike off him,dad was face down and mumbled said wheres my $1 dollar !
