As much as I love my 13, Its hard for me to do a good comparison to my 07. The 07 is stretched, different springs, and turbo with about 300whp. So obviously the 13 is softer, handles better, and feels like a commuter bike, but at the same time it feels like a complete turd lol Doing a full exhaust seemed to help out the 13, and shortly its getting tuned, so that should help as well.

Grn, I actually prefer your bike to that Black/Green one in the booth, it looks a bit too Sci-Fi for me but that's just my opinion.

Kolk my feelings are the Same. There have been so many times in my head I wish I never ever experienced that kind of pull. To say I'm in love with these boosted 14's would be a understatement.

Wait until you hang a turbo on that '13...

I tried not to, but,,,,,,,

When you have two boosted bikes the sickness has you. Kruz, when Rob came over to pickup your old zx10 did you get a chance to trade for a test ride on his boosted 14 ???? He was running low eights while weighing in at over 300lbs. Might have been a fun test ride. Hook may have grabbed you ?

Romans, I went minimal upgrades on the ZX-10R, Yoshimura R77 and a fender eliminator and that's about it, no wire mod, no ECU flash, no PC.
Here's the fleet, been almost 3 years since I've added anything new so I have the itch.

Did you take the flies out ?

Kruz, I look at it like this. If you are able to afford the newer bike than you should go for it. You only live once! I had a 2007 and I loved that bike. Both bikes have insane power but the 2012 has more. I hated the rattle from the cam chain tensioner every time I started the 2007 up. My 2012 CCT is completely quiet. Hopefully it stays that way. The 2007 looked great but the Gen II bikes look better IMO. I like the idea of putting the Traction control on on my 2012 when I get stuck in the rain. Guess it makes me feel a little safer. No T/C on the 2007. I also didn't care for the dash on the 2007's. I like the Gen II dash much better. So all in all the Gen II has a ton of small refinements compared to the Gen I's.

Nope Romes, Bad had it on the trailer, looked badazz but no ride for me. Once you drink the Koolaid, you can't go back, that's why I stay away from the turbos.

It is amazing that a 300 lb human being can go that fast, 1Bad is my hero...lol!

zx14rider345, I appreciate your input along with all the others who've added their thoughts. Yes, you do only live once, I haven't regretted buying any of the bikes I've owned, they're all special in their own way. A 14R may be in my future yet, I'm still looking and thinking all of this through.

I ride with three guys that have the newer 14r and let me tell you, in a roll-on in third gear with my setup (see signature for bike details) I'm getting hammered as if I was on a 750! Out of the three 14r's one is all stock and the other two, one has a PC5 and muzzy slip-on's and the other has just muzzy slip-ons. I can tell you this it makes me want a new 14r the pwr is there in those beast.

I am at a crossroads with deciding to upgrade to a 2013 White 14R non ABS. I had the chance to ride both bikes back to back this past Saturday and cannot decide. The local dealer has a 2013 at $10K with 2k miles and would allow me to switch any aftermarket items over free however my problem is after taking the 14R out for 30 min ride on some twisties & straight roads, I believe the differences between the bikes are there but just closer than what I read here and in the mags. I'm no expert but have 33k miles of riding experience with my SE Black & Orange 09 and I think my problem is I just can't let her go...

First the obvious, the 14R is an absolute beast straightline - F/TC1 WOW!. 2nd, IMO the turn-ins are different meaning both will flick over but my 09 once the line is established seems to hold exactly where I placed her where the 14R seemed to want ever so slight inputs to keep her in line. 3rd comfort, I actually feel with my frame (6'4" 235lbs) my 2009 provides better comfort. I think the reach to the bars on the 14R has a longer reach which put more pressure on wrists. I have 1" Genmar risers on the 09 but still can't image that would make much difference on the 14R. Also, without the large "fork" foremans on the 09 feels slightly slimmer which also allow me to stretch & rest my heals on the frame sliders for a change of position when riding.

The technical differences are there traction control, the slipper better suspension but I like the old school feel I guess. I like the styling of both bikes but each time I looked over the bikes, the SE seems to standout better. Still on the fence....

I believe Kawi will finally make the supercharger for the 14 after the busa gets updated in a couple years (i'm sure they will have to make a new gen to compete with the 14r). The supercharged engine will be transferrable to previous ZX-14s. That's when to buy a new bike or get the suped engine for your old bike.

Thanks for sharing your experience with us Shogun1, I decided to stay with my old '06 ZX-14 as it already has all the steam I really need and the handling is exceptional, and I'm comparing that to my literbikes and Supersport. You feel the weight in the corners but for a big girl she can really dance on a smooth, twistie road as long as you remember what you're riding and don't get too carried away.

Rook with the supercharger talk I guess I will wait but thought this was a good deal considering the white color is is my favorite color on the 14R. Kruz I agree with your statement, both bikes handle great and r smooth but there is a different feeling between the two IMO not better just different with the exception of CC's which translates into a mind blowing pull with WOT on the R....

My opinion? The 14R withABS.The earlier models are totally rad...yes...but the 'beefier' 14R has a lot going for it.Since it is a tad heavier stock...the suspension will need a bit of tweaking for higher speed manuevering.A steering damper will really help with that feeling of 'a bit of wandering' in the curves...big fast curves I mean.Actually...I think it has more to do with body position and throttle input as opposed to 'suspension' adjusting.Honestly...I could have kept the stock rear shock deal...it was made for this bike very well.I really didn't give it enough time to test it much.Course...I'm 170...my bike weighs in at 520 with half tank of fuel.So I do have 'std'(as per book on the frontend.)..and the ohlins is set for the zx14 settings that work quite well...and don't lose the plushness.i MEAN...REALLY...WHO RIDES AROUND HITTING CURVES AT 120..140.Not very many and not very often.Anything below that...and she handles and tracks solidly. The 14R is a nice refinement to the previous models.Well worth it IMO.And I LOVED my Blue07;)

As in all years..the rear shock MAY need an upgrade IF you're weighing in above 200.I could see that.

Hey Green, just trying to convince myself to upgrade with the deal in front of me. Both bikes r great but I think I will keep her to push mileage limits and wait for whatever this H2 will be. It prob will be too small for me but worth waiting to see. I wish I had the roads in your back yard to exploit the improvements of the 14R. Since the accident back in May, now recovered and looking forward to some long trips to the NE mnts....

The biggest difference I've noticed in handling between any of my sportbikes is tire wear and pressure. The best handling machine I have is always the one with fresh rubber and the correct tire pressure. If all of them have fresh tires then you can see some differences but not huge. My 14 is the King in high speed sweepers due to the weight and stability, the smaller machines move around a lot in the big sweepers which can scare you into backing off the throttle. Get 'em on a twistie road with 70 to 80 mph curves with a lot of bumps and everything reverses, the lighter bikes are better, the 14 can get scary as it reaches it's cornering limits early.
