In essence it's a Daytona 675 detuned a bit with high bars.

WHOA...BACK UP THERE A SECOND...you mean this is a 675 cc motor?? I was thinking a Triump Speed Triple was like 975 cc or so, a full on liter bike!

Goes to show how much I know about Triumph, the 675R is the only one I really know the specs on.

WHOA...BACK UP THERE A SECOND...you mean this is a 675 cc motor?? I was thinking a Triump Speed Triple was like 975 cc or so, a full on liter bike!

There is the Speed Triple, 1050cc at 135HP and 82 ft/lb. Then there is the Street Triple, 106HP and 50 ft/lb. Essentially you could say the Speed Triple is better match against pure power, but no denying the shared 675cc engine from the Daytona and it's free spinning characteristics. Some comments below are the new 2013 Street Triple R:

"MCN overall verdict

Compared to the previous incarnation, the 2013 Triumph Street Triple R is lighter, smoother, more refined and has the handling and brakes a superbike would be proud of. Best of all, it’s 6kg lighter. It’s lost some of that in-your-face, foaming-at-the-mouth aggression, which made the original make us all stand up and take notice back in 2007, but it’ll be a ‘nicer’ bike to live with. For the first time there’s also an ABS option.

It manages to be more of everything: better for newbies, more capable for fast riders, more fun for adrenalin junkies and has one of the best engines and exhaust notes in biking. It’s a great all-rounder, no matter what your ability.

There’s also a standard version with softer suspension, non-adjustable forks, more basic brakes and slightly slower steering for £700 less. "

From Topspeed:

"The Triumph Street Triple R had always a supersport DNA, but the 2013 version was deigned to reward its rider with more excitement than ever.

Triumph’s engineers have honed this roadster to perfection, giving it supersport specification, suspension and brakes. With power, torque and even more excitement, this is the most fun you can have on two wheels.

Its lightweight chassis is even more dynamic, delivering greater levels of agility and precision while keeping you firmly planted. Fitted with additional adjustable front forks, an RSU with both pre-load and damping adjustment the Street Triple R offers renowned ride quality, handling and control.

The liquid cooled 12 valve triple, combined with a close ratio six speed gearbox produce an exhilarating ride, and the under-engine silencer helps lower the centre gravity and improve handling. The Nissin radial 4-piston brakes are built to match the bike’s high performance, coping easily with higher speed and rapid deceleration. And the Street Triple R features state-of-the-art Anti-Lock Brakes as standard that can cope with even the hardest braking. And because the ABS system is switchable, it can be easily deactivated whenever necessary via the instrument panel – it will then automatically re-activate when the motorbike is re-started.

The Street Triple R has distinctive good looks too, with stylish brushed metal finishes, aggressive headlights and a choice of colours complimenting the dark powder coated engine and the telltale red rear sub frame, red side radiator cowls, and red pin stripe detailing to the wheels.

The Street Triple R is not a subtle motorbike. It’s a bike with unmistakable attitude, for riders who want to take it to the max.

Yes I picked up the Speed Triple R this morning at 10am. I really love it. I'll post some pics up Monday. It really is a cool bike.

I said good bye to the blue ZX-14R this morning. I had it for about 14 months and 8k miles and while it's fun to get a new bike, and the Triumph ST R is a very cool bike and something I've always wanted, it was a bit sad. Of course the big 14 fired up this morning with what I swear is an exhaust note that cannot be improved upon with the Brocks CT Duals. She ran as smooth as silk to Starbucks while I had a coffee in some mild drizzle and waited for the Triumph shop to open. As always the bike had perfect manners and really is perfection for it's intended purpose. I would put bags and a tank bag on this bike and ride to Alaska and back.
But she's gone. I'm sure the days ahead will be filled with alternate runs throught he twisties on this new 675 Triple, with it's uber light handling shod with Pirelli Corsa Diablo tires, the BMW S1000RR on those days where my need for serious speed is calling, and probably more use of the Bimmer K1600, but I won't forget what wonderful bikes these Kawasaki ZX-14's are. I will own another one at some point. I am all but certain.

I'll be posting up some pics of the new toy Monday. She is a sexy lightweight with killer looks and handling and has that very Euro personality that I'm becoming more and more impressed with, from that overused "character" perspective.

Yep, we need pics now. 675cc huh, man Jag you traded way down on cubes, I'll bet that felt weird riding home. I remember when I picked up my 6R thinking "what have I done" it felt so puny compared to the big bikes but that all went away after I got it broken in and a pipe on there. It's all about the precise, light handling, mid corner speed and crazy high rpm soundtrack...enjoy!

Ok so here are the pics. Very cool bike and very quick. Still breaking her in though;

As I told Kruz..I really love the light, sharp handling of this bike and it has plenty of power, but I'm not gonna lie, I already miss the 14R. Saw it on Cycle Trade and almost decided to just go buy her back. I know I know...

NICE! Just like with all good women, you fathom how great the 14 is when you're not on it or when she's gone. However, "that's is that" time to turn the page! Let's start with the mods:

Jagman that ugly fluid reservoirs gotta go, motovationusa in Austin has what you're looking for:

Then I'm thinking Brembo Nickel Plated monobloc with RSC 19 master cylinder and matching clutch lever

Rizoma fender eliminator and Ohlins forks and shock, followed by BST carbon fiber wheels and braketech axis/cmc rotors.

DONE.

DK...it is a bit like an ex isn't it?:)

Love the RED reservior idea actually, so just added that to the list.

Here's whats on order:

-Triumph oval bar end mirrors, made by Rizoma. Reserve the right to go with CRG round ones as well. Either way those make a HUGE difference in the look of the bike. Those stalks are hideous.
-Paint matched fly screen which really ties the headlamps and clocks together nicely and adds a little front end tie in. (Note the use of the word "clocks" now that I'm all British and shit)
-Paint matched belly cover in front of the header pipes.
-Rear seat cowling is a maybe.
-Possible rear sets
-NO Fender eliminator available for the bike yet due to a redesigned rear end with the low boy pipe. The wait for that will be long.
-Stock pipe looks ok and sound pretty decent but I'm sure I'll go with another slip on, likely an Arrow, you know keeping it all British:) The triple has a very unique sound which I think sounds very rich and unique.

All the other stuff is a bit pricey for a relatively inexpensive bike IMO. Gotta say this bikes steering and handling is extremely crisp. All in all very cool naked bike that fits the bill of what I was looking for.

Looks awesome Jag, now you've got me wanting one...lol! I dug through my stack of bike rags this evening and found two road tests, Fastbikes and Sport Rider, both gave the bike top marks. I'm glad you went with a Supersport, will round out the fleet nicely. Where the 14R was the hand of Thor ensconced in a velvet glove, pummeling the pavement into submission, the Trumpet is more like wielding a surgeons scalpel. It will reward careful line selection with mid corner speed and agility the big bikes can only dream of.

We'll have to do a ride, I'll bring my 6R to the party!

Bike, Performance Bike and Motorcycle, all British magazines have the R on their cover and all give it 5 of 5 stars.
My buddy had a Speed Triple a long time ago. Then went through a few others, last was an Aprilia Tuono twin, and now just bought a new Speed Triple last Saturday. In fact I'm driving him over to pick it up Saturday morning. I got my real first taste of these Triumphs and nakeds in general from him. They were all larger displacement bikes and VERY cool with VERY rowdy personalities. I had always read that the Street Triples were extremely sweet to ride and handle and for many, given the choice it would be the Street over the Speed, and for many others if they only had one bike they would pick a Street Triple. I find them very cool and attractive in a quirky kind of way, (a bit less quirky especially this year) since opening up the rear and removing the underseat exhaust. Getting rid of that clutter called mirrors on top of the bars and cleaning the front end up for that real Streetfighter look holds a lot of appeal. It's a bike that recieves modifications very well. It's way to early to review it, but after 150 miles, what a fun bike!! I can't use the revband as it's intended yet, which I'm sure will really give me the supersport experience, but it is laser sharp and as you say, is like a scalpel through the very small amount of curves Ive taken her through. It's so relaxing because as fun as the S1000RR is to ride, and as well as it handles, it feels like work, (very rewarding work albeit),compared to this little lightweight. The high bars and relaxed ergos give it that streetfighter feel with leverage on the bars top down. The triple motor so far is a joy to rev and hear. It's very smooth and seems to have plenty of punch, but will need to use about 6K more revs, to really feel it with a 13K redline. Anyway...here I go starting to write a review. I need to get 1000 miles on it and report back.
BTW saw my bike on Cycletrader today down at Eurosport. He has a dozen pics or so of it and it was pretty hard to look at. Parting with it, as much as I can tell I'm gonna love this new bike, has been harder than I expected. I know you guys told me so. No more king of the road feeling:) Yesterday an old 14 pulled up next to me, gave a passing look over at the little Triple, and then took off from the light with probably 20% throttle putting quite a bit of distance between us. I remember doing that all the time from cars from a light with absolutely no intention of doing that. No drama and no massive throttle application, just a nice dip into throttle and the cars were so far in my mirrors it was laughable. First thing I noticed was cars keep up a bit better. Thats not to say the bike feels slow. On the contrary, it feels very punchy and torquey, with plenty of power. It's just the not the alpha dog on the street the 14 is of course. Feel kind of silly saying it, but I realize now I kind of liked that with the Brocks pipe purring. Oh well...moving on.
